Penn State returner Derrick Williams was named Big Ten Special Teams player of the week for his performance in the Nittany Lions' 38-24 win over Illinois on Saturday. Williams had a clutch 94-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter that gave Penn State a 31-17 lead. He also had a fine day receiving (6 catches for 75 yards) and rushing (6 carries for 33 yards) and became the first player under coach Joe Paterno to have three touchdowns -- rushing, receiving and on a return -- in one game.

This is exactly what every Penn State fan hoped for four years ago when Williams announced his intention of going to Happy Valley. Performances like that week in and week out and we're unstoppable. There's no reason Williams shouldn't have 15 to 20 touches a game. Options, reverses, direct snaps, returns, passes...you name it, you try it. He is that freakish of an athlete. About time Jay Pa and Galen recognize that!

Jeff, you should do an analysis of the voters. I noticed of the 65 voters, 41 ranked PSU 6th or better with 13 voting PSU 8th or lower. In fact, there is one voter who ranked PSU 17th and 2 that ranked PSU 13th. How can these voters be counted in the system when everyone else is ranking PSU quite a bit higher? Who are these voters? Are the SEC voters? Are they from a school that has a grudge against PSU? Curious to know Mikemike your comment is interesting. USC has been ranked in the top 5 the last few years in recruiting class. Well they just loss to Oregon State. ND always has a top recruiting class and I have not seen them in a BCS bowl in quite a few years. Yes PSU loss Pryor, but with 2 quarterbacks for the next 3 years, PSU probably did not need him. time will tell
