Two more commit to Penn State
Penn State received two more oral commitments from highly regarded high school players, increasing membership in the freshman Class of 2012 to 15.
Defensive tackle Tommy Schutt of Glen Ellyn, Ill., and wide receiver Eugene Lewis of Plymouth, Pa., are the latest high school players to give oral commitments to Penn State for the freshman Class of 2012.
Scout.com reported Wednesday night that the 6-foot-3, 290-pound Schutt, a five-star player that it rated sixth among defensive tackles in the nation and 40th overall, had chosen Penn State over schools had offered scholarships, including Florida, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oregon, Southern California and Wisconsin.
Rivals.com, another recruiting website, said Notre Dame also offered a scholarship to Schutt, who attends Glenbard West High School.
Earlier in the day, multiple reports had the Nittany Lions getting a commitment from Lewis, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound wideout who plays for Wyoming Valley West High. Lewis, who was offered scholarships by Michigan State, Wisconsin, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Temple and Rutgers, is ranked seventh among the nation's wide receivers by Scout.com.
The Lions' two newest additions brings their total number of recruits for 2012 to 15. They now rank 13th among all teams in Scout.com's team rankings, and second in the Big Ten to Michigan, which is ranked No. 1 overall.
