Seven Penn Staters were invited to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine to be held in Indianapolis from Feb. 18-24. Defensive end Aaron Maybin, center A.Q. Shipley, wide receiver Derrick Williams, tackle Gerald Cadogen, wide receiver Deon Butler, cornerback Lydell Sargeant and wide receiver Jordan Norwood will likely take part in the week-long event that has often been called a meat market.

For a player like Maybin, who could go in the first round of the draft, it might not be beneficial to attend, so he could skip the combine. If he does he'll likely perform for scouts at Penn State's Pro Day, which is tentatively scheduled for March. 18.

Oh, Maybin, one more year would have most likely increased your value. You were on the cusp of being top-tier (say top 5). Of course, there is that whole players association being ripped up next year, so who knows? Strange days, strange days.

What about Tony Davis? I thought he was a better player than Sargeant.

No Evans? No Orhnberger? No Scirotto (likely to be undrafted anyway)? Very odd.

Verve, I cant' blame Maybin, who has been projected as a top 10-15 pick. Mo Evans, on the other hand, what the hell was he thinking?? The guy could have substantially raised his standing (and subsequently the amount of $$$ he makes) if he had come back and had a good season. I have no idea why he decided to enter the draft.
