Report: Kersey leaves Nittany Lions

Wide receiver Shawney Kersey has left the Penn State football team, multiple outlets reported on Tuesday night.

Both Lions247.com and BlueWhite Illustrated, citing anonymous sources, said Kersey left the Nittany Lions because of personal reasons.

Kersey was Penn State's most experienced wide receiver this season, considering Justin Brown (now with Oklahoma) and Devon Smith (now with Marshall) are no longer on the team.

Through two games this season, Kersey, a redshirt junior, is third on the team with six catches. He has totaled 44 receiving yards. His longest catch was 13 yards.

Last season, the Woodbury, N.J. native had five catches for 108 yards.

Kersey is 6-foot-1 and 200 pounds. He missed a bulk of preseason practice with a sprained ankle.
