Kevin Newsome Jr., a top dual-threat quarterback, announced he will attend elected Penn State at a news conference in Chesapeake, Va..

Newsome, a 6-3, 217-pounder who runs a 4.57-second 40, had narrowed his choices down to Penn State and Virginia Tech.  He originally committed to Michigan in his junior year but decommitted over the summer.

Check out his highlight reel below and imagine him replacing Daryll Clark at quarterback in two seasons.

Quality. If Clark stays healthy, does he redshirt? I dont want them to waste a year with 10-15 plays Its too bad Devlin wasnt at PSU about 3 years ago when they could have benched Morelli

No way they redshirt him. He'll be the #2 QB as a freshman, then start as a sophomore.

maybe this is the kid that leads Joe PA to his last national title before he rides out into the sunset.

3 more years of JayPa too. Don't write in that national title into the sunset just yet. A lot of the BCS weighting goes through the polls - and Big10 football doesn't get as much respect as some other conferences. Go with a playoff and let'm settle it on the field with the best 8. Not perfect, like the NCAA, who gets left out, but better than what is.

Why not redshirt? How much playing time is he seriously going to get? A few passes and handoffs in the first few games when they play easy teams?

They can redshirt him, but he's still allowed to dress, practice and be on the sideline in case they need him. No need to waste a year unless there is a emergency.

You cannot redshirt this kid. Need him to be prepared as the backup and eventual starter once Clark graduates. Still wish it was Devlin as the guy in waiting, but what can you do? Really happy to see Newsome will be enrolling in January.

No way that he redshirts. He will get plenty of PT early next year. 6'3 220 as an 18 year old... imagine him as a junior. If his passing skills develop, he will be one of the best at PSU.
