STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Penn State capped its regular season with a commanding 49-18 win over Michigan State that gave the Nittany Lions the Big Ten title and a berth in the Rose Bowl. Coach Joe Paterno,  by the way, said he was coming back for next season, as if you ever doubted he would. He'll probably have hip replacement surgery sometime this week and will attempt to recover in time for the Rose Bowl.

Jeff McLane has been at The Inquirer since May, 1996, and has been the Penn State football beat reporter since August, 2007. He also covers Big Five college basketball, among other assignments for the sports desk. Jeff has never won a Pulitzer Prize, an APSE award or any other writing award for that matter.
