Penn State-Michigan second quarter update

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. --

1. With Penn State's defense getting mauled and beat by Michigan's speed, defensive coordinator Tom Bradley replaced linebackers Josh Hull and Tyrell Sales with Bani Gbadyu and Michael Mauti. The Lions promptly stopped the Wolverines offense and finally forced a punt early in the second quarter.

2. Safety Anthony Scirrotto was missing during that Michigan possession. The senior was on the sidelines helmet-less and appears to have some sort of injury. Freshman Drew Astorino was in for Scirrotto.

3. Mike Lucian replaced right guard Stefen Wisniewski for one Penn State series. Wiz was back in on the next series.

4. Penn State has to be feeling pretty good about itself to be down only 17-14 at the break. The Lions engineered a nice nine-play, 74-yard drive in 1:38 just before the half. Daryll Clark hit Jordan Norwood for a three-yard touchdown on third and goal and Penn State made the margin very manageable. Running back Evan Royster, meanwhile, is already over 100 yards for the game. It's his fifth game of the season over the century mark this season.
