Penn State-Iowa third quarter update

IOWA CITY, Iowa --

1. Iowa quarterback Ricky Stanzi threw a pretty bad interception early in the third quarter. Penn State linebacker Tyrell
Sales slipped under a receiver to snare his first career pick. He returned the interception to the Iowa 29, but the Lions failed to capitalize on the turnover and settled on another Kelly field goal to move Penn State further ahead, 16-7.

2. The Hawkeyes finally had their own long drive and Stanzi bounced back from that pick to make some nice throws during the scourge. The best was on a third-and-13 from the Penn State 27. Stanzi pump faked and found wide receiver Derrell Johnson-Koulianos alone in the corner of the end zone for a touchdown. J-K continued on his pattern, but Penn State cornerback A.J. Wallace bit on the fake and J-K was wide open.

3. Another Stanzi screw up. After the Iowa defense forced a three and out, Stanzi fumbled the snap and Penn State linebacker Josh Hull was Johnny on the spot and recovered the mistake on the Iowa 28. This time the Lions took advantage of the error and scored four plays later when Derrick Williams took a direct snap and scurried nine yards for a touchdown. Penn State was reeling a bit just a few moments ago, but now has itself a nine-point lead with 29 seconds left to go in the third quarter.
