Penn State's Zordich talks about his father, the safeties coach for the Eagles

Michael Zordich's father, also named Michael, played safety for Penn State from 1982-1985. He was an All-American his senior year and a co-captain of the team. He went on to play 12 years in the NFL with the New York Jets, Phoenix Cardinals and Philadelphia Eagles and is now the Eagles safeties coach.

But Zordich, a redshirt junior fullback for the Nittany Lions, said he and his father rarely talk about football.

"He's never has been like that," said Zordich, who scored the winning touchdown - a one-yard rush - against Temple on Saturday. "He'll watch the games and he keeps an eye out just to spectate. But he's never been a coaching father. He's just kind of been the proud dad that watches and has fun watching the games.

"I'd rather have a father-son relationship with my dad then a player-coach (relationship)."

Despite a busy schedule, Zordich said his father was able to attend Penn State's season opener against Indiana State. That will probably be it for this season, but Zordich said he tries to get to as many Eagles games as possible. He said he went to a couple of games last year.

"The rest of the time he's with his other family just coaching and doing that," Zordich said. "He's busy, but he's having a lot of fun doing it."
