Penn State wins at Horseshoe for third time in 33 years

Penn State's 20-14 win at Ohio State marked just the third time in 33 years the Nittany Lions won at Ohio Stadium. The victory gives the Lions at least a share of the inaugural Leaders Division title and a win next Saturday at Wisconsin would send them to the Big Ten championship game.

Penn State's 20-14 win at Ohio State marked just the third time in 33 years the Nittany Lions won here at Ohio Stadium. The victory gives the Lions (9-2, 6-1 Big Ten) at least a share of the inaugural Leaders Division title. Another win next Saturday at Wisconsin would send them to the Big Ten championship game.

"I challenged the guys on the team to show a lot of character and resolve and they did," said interim coach Tom Bradley, who won his first game as head coach on Saturday. "I challenged them before the game, we talked about the last two teams to win here were '78 and '08."

The win also came one day after the news that former head coach Joe Paterno had been diagnosed with a treatable form of lung cancer.

"Just to lose coach Joe was tough enough, and now him being sick, that was just another blow to us," left tackle Quinn Barham said. "But I think the way we responded to it was a lot better than people thought. To come out here and win a big road game in a tough environment, it says about what this team is made of."

Some other notes from Saturday's game:

-Stephfon Green scored two rushing touchdowns for the second straight week, the first off a 39-yard scurry in the first quarter. Green carried the load for the Nittany Lions as Silas Redd's shoulder injury is still a bit of a concern, offensive coordinator Galen Hall said. Green carried 16 times for 94 yards, while Redd amassed 63 yards on just eight carries. Redd did a break a 42-yard run, which tied a career high, in the second quarter.

-Penn State implemented a heavy dose of the wildcat formation for Saturday's game, lining wide receivers Curtis Drake, the former West Catholic star, and Bill Belton under center. Drake ran three times for 50 yards, while Belton ran four times for 16 yards. Neither threw a pass.

-Matt McGloin started and played the entire game for the second week in a row. The redshirt junior was 10-of-18 for 88 yards with an interception.

-Kicker/punter Anthony Fera played great, hitting field goals from 43 and 46 yards away and pinning three punts inside Ohio State's 20-yard line.

-Defensive end Jack Crawford (St. Augustine's Prep) recorded two sacks for a loss of 10 yards to go along with six tackes. Linebacker Nate Stupar also had a sack. Linebacker Glenn Carson led the team with 11 tackes and forced a fumble.

-Penn State improved to 4-0 this season and 7-1 in games decided by 10 points or less.
