Penn State vs Ohio State at Beaver Stadium officially a sellout

For the first time this season, there could be more than 100,000 fans at Beaver Stadium. The Ohio State game is a sellout.

The last tickets were sold on Thursday morning, a representative from Penn State's athletic communication department said.

The Nittany Lions bring a five game winning streak into Saturday's game, which starts at 5:30 p.m. and will air on ESPN. Penn State and Ohio State are both undefeated in Big Ten play and tied atop the Leader Division standings. It will be the first -- and likely only -- all-stadium whiteout for Penn State this season.

Beaver Stadium has a capacity a hair over 106,000, but there hasn't been a crowd with more than 100,000 fans this season. Through four home games, Penn State has an average attendance of 96,357. Part of that is due to the STEP program, which was implemented last season and aggravated many longtime season ticket holders.

On Tuesday, Penn State coach Bill O'Brien plead for fans to arrive to Beaver Stadium early -- during warmups, he asked -- because the energy will help pump up his team.

"You know (Patriots coach Bill Belichick) told us in New England, `You only play once a week,'" O'Brien said. "This year, we only get a chance to lay it on the line 12 times, 12 Saturdays."

Also earlier this week, Ohio State coach offered this comment about playing at Beaver Stadium: "I understand from our coaches that [Beaver Stadium] is the loudest place in the conference. We're hoping that the no-huddle offense will calm the crowd noise a little."

Leaders of Nittanyville -- the group of students who camp outside Beaver Stadium the week before games -- took that quote to heart. Group president Troy Weller made a printout of the quote and pasted it near the tents, highlighting the words "loudest," "calm" and "a little."
