Penn State completes 2013 schedule with game vs. UCF

POSTED: Wednesday, February 6, 2013, 8:08 PM

Penn State announced Wednesday it has completed its 2013 football schedule by adding Central Florida for a game on Sept. 14 at Beaver Stadium.

The Knights replace Virginia, which pulled out of the date in order to play an extra home game.

UCF, which finished 10-4 last season and won the Beef O’Brady Bowl, is coached by George O’Leary. Penn State coach Bill O’Brien was a member of O’Leary’s staff at Georgia Tech between 1995 and 2001.

“It will be a great honor to play against UCF and coach O’Leary,” O’Brien said in a statement. “UCF is a good football team. Coach O’Leary has done a fantastic job and obviously he has meant a lot to my career. This will be a great game for our fans and I’m really looking forward to it.”

Penn State athletic director Dave Joyner said the two schools are working on a date for a game in Orlando in 2014 or 2015. He said the game against Virginia will be rescheduled.

The Nittany Lions are playing UCF for the third time. They defeated the Knights in 2002 and 2004, both times at Beaver Stadium.

The Knights will begin play in the Big East this upcoming season.
