Penn State DE Brad Bars to miss 2013 season with Achilles injury

Redshirt junior defensive end Brad Bars will miss the 2013 season after suffering a ruptured right Achilles tendon in a workout earlier this week.

Penn State announced Thursday that redshirt junior defensive end Brad Bars will miss the 2013 season with a ruptured right Achilles tendon suffered during a workout earlier this week.

The 6-foot-3, 251-pound Bars, who is from Nashville, Tenn., suffered the injury in his right posterior ankle, according to team physician Peter Seidenberg. Following surgery, rehabilitation is expected to take from four to six months, Seidenberg said.

Following spring practice, Bars was listed as No. 2 on the depth chart at one defensive end position behind C.J. Olaniyan.

Bars, who owns a 3.77 grade-point average as a finance major, played in eight games on defense and special teams last season and recorded two tackles. Since he redshirted during his freshman season in 2010, he will have one year of eligibility remaining after 2013.
