Penn State University president Graham Spanier and athletic director Tim Curley announced today an agreement that will provide for the opportunity of coach Joe Paterno leading the football program through the 2011 season. It was also agreed that the parties might re-evaluate their circumstances and alter the arrangement by either shortening or extending its length as necessary.

Smoke and mirrors. Joe Paterno doesn't even coach this team. If I'm wrong then he is the only coach (NFL or college) on the planet who stands on the sideline without a headset or anything in his hands. He just paces up and down the sideline, like a fan of the team watching the game. All he is these days is a old and out-of-touch so called "icon" that the school apparently still wants to be the face of the university -- that's the only reason he gets the head coach title. And if he is the coach he has no control over his team. His players act and behave like animals, as the sickening amount of arrests over the years prove. The whole thing is a joke. It's sad to see a great university like Penn State sell its soul to the devil, consistently brushing the off field troubles of its football players under the rug, in order to line its pockets.

I wonder if the keeps his son on? College sports might be the last bastion of unabashed nepotism in the US. News break for Joe Pa, America has moved to a meritocracy (well, about a month ago anyway).

I guess Coach Bradley realizes he has to wait ANOTHER 3 yrs for a shot at the PSU job.

When Paterno passes he should be cryogenically frozen and placed on the sidelines.

Paterno is like a general manager who oversees the talent on the team. Nothing wrong with that. They have plenty of other good coaches to coach the offense and defense. I dont understand all the hate.
