In the wake of the charges against Penn State AD Tim Curley and another administrator for perjury in the investigation of Jerry Sandusky on child sex abuse charges, Penn State president Graham Spanier released the following statement on Penn State Live:

The allegations about a former coach are troubling, and it is appropriate that they be investigated thoroughly. Protecting children requires the utmost vigilance.

With regard to the other presentments, I wish to say that Tim Curley and Gary Schultz have my unconditional support. I have known and worked daily with Tim and Gary for more than 16 years. I have complete confidence in how they have handled the allegations about a former University employee.

Tim Curley and Gary Schultz operate at the highest levels of honesty, integrity and compassion. I am confident the record will show that these charges are groundless and that they conducted themselves professionally and appropriately.

- Graham Spanier

sure spanier would say this, since he is in almost as deeply as Curley. Joe looks like he may slide unless it is known that he forced Sandusky out in 1999 because of allegations and did nothing.

So, what Spanier is saying, is that Curley followed proper procedure on how to handle a PSU employee. Which means he agrees with Curley that the University had no moral obligation to do anything since they worked within the legal boundaries and within PSU privacy boundaries. It also makes sense why Paterno was very late for Sandusky's retirement party. If Spanier, Curely and this other Turd have any self respect, they would resign. If not, they absolutely deserve to be fired.....TURDS!!

Now let's see if the Inquirer goes after Penn State with the same vigilance it's gone after Milton Hershey School.

This sets up a Joe versus Curley since Curley says he was never told.

Incorrect. You need to read the grand jury report. Grad Assistant personally observed alleged crime. Grad Assistant told Paterno. Paterno told Curley. Curley then interviewed Grand Assistant.

how do these animals get coaching jobs?...this coward probably has hundreds of victims...from youth sports on up, coaches should be required to sit for lie detector tests and be vetted by abnormal psychologists...this is sickening!!!

It's a whitewash. There's absolutely no way Joe didn't know when Sandusky "retired". The first allegation in the indctment goes back to 1994, five years before the end of his career. Joe was a participant in the coverup.

Spanier, Curley, and Schultz should all be fired. No one who received information about Sandusky's behavior and failed to pass it on to law enforcement should be employed at a college -- period.

OMG!!! I stared blankly at the computer screen for quite some time after reading about this monster. Where to begin? Round up all parties, who knew ANYTHING about this freaks lifestyle while still allowing him access to boys/young men, and introduce them to those in isolation at our ugliest prisons, as a result of similar crimes. WTF?

Of course Spanier is saying the charges are groundless, what else is he going to say? He knows that if he acknowledges the sexual assault of a 10-year old in any way -- he's next -- since he's the one that reviewed and approved Sandusky's banishment.

Did Spanier testify before the grand jury as well? If not, the AG's office is certainly preparing a subpoena to get him under oath. No doubt Curley and Schultz will testify against Spanier in a plea deal with prosecutors. As the senior administrator, Spanier's only defense now is to attack the victim -- a dirty business.

Whatever the outcome of the case against Curley and Schultz, PSU's president has put the university in an position of having to continue to cover-up the sexual assault of a child in order to save his own skin.

PSU's board of trustees should ask for Spanier's resignation immediately. Otherwise, they risk further damage to institution's reputation by having a sitting president indicted for failure to report a sex crime.

Oh boy this is just devastating . As a huge PSU fan I'm stunned. All parties that knew of this and did nothing should go to jail. Speechless.

I read the Grand Jury Report (http://www.attorneygeneral.gov/uploadedFiles/Press/Sandusky-Grand-Jury-Presentment.pdf). OMG! This has been going on in PSU facilities for over 10 years!
