Oregon State over USC ... wow

There's no way you can equate the Oregon State that just stunned Southern Cal, 27-21, to the Oregon State that got stomped on by Penn State three weeks ago, 45-14. For one, the Beavers were playing at home. And two, they were facing a conference rival that just so happened to be the No. 1-ranked team in the nation. But that being said ...

If you're a Penn State fan you got to be feeling pretty good right now. Your team made Oregon State look as bad as Division I-AA Coastal Carolina and they just beat big, bad SC. Not only does it make one wonder, 'How good is Penn State?' but also 'How bad is Ohio State?' to lose to the Trojans by a landslide.

It's way early, but the other reason to be optimistic is that the road to the BCS championship just took a major turn. It just goes to show you that there is still a lot of football to be played and the season could just as easily be as topsy turvy as last year's run to the national championship.

SC, meanwhile, has to seriously question its decision to schedule two byes in the first four weeks of the season. The Trojans looked like they were sleepwalking through the first half.
