I hsve to agree with the posters here who talk abbout Penn State football supporters and I differentiate them form the university as a whole. This is a joke, you have the "god" of PSU, who had no boss, basically putting up with a pedophile in order to further his legend and record.

None of the above in my opinion. How about Herman Edwards? PSU needs someone with class, smarts and above reproach when it comes to integrity. Who better that Edwards?

PSU people just don't get it. Tell me again how for the last 40 years it's been the classiest program in sports when for 13 of them you were hiding a pedophile. Expect more bad news to come. The rest of the country ranks you below Miami, OSU, SMU etc. Let's face it, you are now the bottom of the barrel and the poster child of what not to be. The NCAA should allow your players (if you care about the kids) to transfer without penalty.

To those of you talking about how great a school Penn State is: listen to the current PSU team members who have been interviewed about this situation. They don't sound as if they've had even a decent high school education, let along anything of a college education. They can't pronounce words, don't have a clue about grammar. They sound like thugs. I'm not saying they are, but they sure don't speak like young men who've gotten a half-decent education. So much for Paterno's reputation for making sure his boys get a good education. The bar has sunk very low in the morass that is Penn State.

It's scary to see how many commenters are in denial about just how deep and how evil the Penn State situation is. Clearly the corruption permeates the Board of Trustees, the local police, and state authorities. Until they do away with football for several years, until they break their addition to the corruption that football has become, athletes and coaches should give this school a pass.

Why would any coach worth a dime want to come to this mess? It's going to take years of rehab for PSU to move beyond its unhealthy adulation of football and Paterno. No one will be able to compete with JoePa's tarnished yet whitewashed image. The only thing that will save Penn State if for them to dethrone football. Thank heavens they're trying to dethrone Paterno.

It be me Tommy the G .... You can rule out any coaches with former ties to State Penn thus Golden and Schiano are out .... London ain't leaving Va. For this train wreck....Urban Meyer is more likely to take the Urban Outfitters job than shower in this poison den .....my vote is Eddie Rendell

While this really shouldn't even be a conversation, the choice should be simple and that is Urban Meyer. I nationally recognized name and more importantly, a man recognized for his character. His signing would help to lure recruits who are now going back on their commitments and help to restore some credibility to the program. Anyone else and the recruits continue to pull out, the team starts to get crushed by Big 10 teams with superior talent and it is the beginning of the end for the program. There really is only one coach out there who would restore some respect and credibility and that is Urban Meyer.

Some people just like to show how stupid they are---like Miller. Exactly what did the football program do to these kids? Just because a demented former coach was involved in these unspeakable horrors has nothing to do with football or the current team. Suppose it had been a biology professor and his department chair reported it to the dean and nothing was done. Does that mean the biology dept should be shut down? What about the school of science--that shut down too? Miller's post is as idiotic as the moronic so-called journalist for the Daily News who suggested ending the main campus as if that would stop pedophilia. I would imagine that Miller thinks the best way to eliminate pedophilia is to shut down football at Penn State. Right--I'm sure that sex crimes against children will then disappear.

As an outsider to the PSU family, I can share, relate, and form my own attitudes about the heinousness of this crime against young boys. I only hope it goes no farther than Jerry Sandusky...only time will tell.
But, for those of you who want the Football program to go away,or anguish that the Nitts will not find a coach, or that the NCAA will come down and level Mt. Nittany....get a grip. There will be tough times ahead(this from an alum of a school who's seen more NCAA sanctions than Sandusky saw little boys)but Penn State will get over this. If I were a coach why wouldn't I love to live and coach in State college. You got this great town, humongous stadium, like more passionate and proud alums than most anyone else, a very good school. So, what's not to like? It's bleak now and it deserves to be for the crime committed is heinous (gee, I like this word) and I hope Sandusky never sees the light of day but it all will pass. And, the coach who does get the job, if he's worth a lick, will thank the administration for giving him a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Anyone suggesting that PSU needs to give up its football program is so clearly out of touch with reality. This scandal does not = PSU football. Instead, the schools needs to purge itself of the individuals who enabled this scandal.

Penn State needs a hiatus from football. They need to put a priority on finding a coach for ETHICS AND MORALITY, before thinking about how do we get back to business as usual. I hope every recruit reads the Grand Jury Testimony before committing.

NEWSFLASH---- this is toxic and the NCAA is going to penalize the program, probably all sports programs (which may be right after all details come out). No big name coach will want to come to this program until the future penalities on the program are known.

SlinkTMP - the NCAA has already anounced that they have no jurisdiction in this situation. The crime was committed by a former coach. All but one victim was victimized by this guy far from PSU and has nothing to do with the university. Even if he was a coach on the staff, the NCAA deals in eligibiliy of student athletes.

There will be a coach picked to manage the crisis through the next two years and then he will be replaced with the next long term coach. The problem is there will be a period before all the quality assistant coaches and the other people will be willing to come to Penn State.

IMO, if PSU is looking for immediate success, this will be a difficult hire. Of course, there will be a slew of exuberant, competitive assistant coaches and head coaches of smaller programs willing to apply for the job... because they will have nothing to lose. But, getting an experienced coach (i.e., Urban Meyer) to follow Joe Paterno under these circumstances, will be tough. If you were Urban Meyer, would you? Someone commented yesterday about Tony Dungy. Someone of his experience and integrity would be an outstanding choice because I feel he could reestablish the reputation, improve the quality (yes, it needs improving), and also make an impact to heal the wounds left behind.

To recap, a long-retired football assistant coach is accused of using former employers facilities as a location to molest boys. Upon finding out about the allegations against the retired assistant, the current head coach promptly reported the matter to the AD (his boss), and a school VP (the head of the local police). These two failed to further report the incident beyond that. The obvious solution is to punish the student athletes associated with the program that the alleged worked for nearly 15 years earlier.

Why not Mike McQueary? After all, he truly represents everything that Penn State has turned out to be. Clueless, gutless, classless, and lawless.

You are correct mickeith. Also, any of the current players, should they decide to go into coaching, are forever banned from coaching at PSU in the future. The stench permeates them also. I am considering the ban extending to their children and will decide on that shortly.

BEMiller has extended his ban to anyone who has ever coached at PSU under Paterno, played for Paterno, played against a Paterno team, played or coached with anyone who has played or coached for or against Paterno, watched a PSU game in person or TV, read anything about PSU or ever said the words PSU.

You guys are in denial. The program is effectively dead. All top recruits are decommiting. Playing for PSU will be taboo. The team will sink to a 5 win team. Who would want to coach that mess? This is not a short term problem, it may be for decades.

JonKap - another stupid uninformed post by you! If this situation had never happened and JoePA had retired, recruits would also re-consider. They committed based on Joe being coach. They are waiting and rightly so to see who the new Head Coach will be. If it is someone looked on as a good coach, the recruits will flood in. I'd love to hear your reaction 1-2yrs from now when PSU is once again challenging for the National title!

nelson - you are a tool! PSU is one of the classiest Univ's in the USA. For the last 40yrs, when anyone talked about how college sports should be run - they always used PSU football and Joe P. as the standard. Because a couple Administrators did not do their job, you call the entire university such names? It would make more sense if I said everyone named Nelson is a fool - at least it is true in your case!!! I understand - you could not get accepted to PSU, your grades and SAT's were too low, so you are just a jealous loser!

BEMiller- Where exactly does it say the coaches on the current team will be retained? Not only that but I think you are making outlandish accusations against individuals not even mentioned in the GJ report. Stick to the facts. And shut down a program for two years? A bit irrational and unrealistic don't you think? The football program funds the school. Shutting it down is an absurd idea

It is pathetic people are going on about the next head coach a Penn State.
The football program should be shut down--IMMEDIATELY! It should be closed down for at least the rest of this year and the next two years. This is not a time for business as usual.
No one from the current group of coaches, be the assistants coordinators, or whatever their job titles are, should be allowed to continue. Where contracts need to be bought, contracts should be bought.
It is absolutely unreasonable to think any coach in the current regime can be trusted.

BEMiller - you are an uninformed nutjob. Joe Paterno did nothing wrong and the facts will come out to prove this. The media right now is making false charges against Joe in-order to hype and get ratings. They are not doing their homework. For those who want the true facts, the Grand July testimony is available for anyone to read. Joe did as he was supposed to in bringing this sitution to his superiors (including the VP in charge of the Campus police). Why would Joe report to the police, he did not witness anything. Mike McCreary, who witnessed a former coach who had not been employed by PSU for 3yrs. He was not sure what he saw, but it made him uncomfortable. He is the one who should have gone to police, not Joe Paterno.

There will be a new Head Coach next year and he will have a totally new staff.

Dumbest response ever. Really Miller. You're somebody who isn't really using your head, nor do you understand what just happened.

But what did the kids playing football at PSU do to deserve that fate? What did the current coaches *who weren't there when all this went down* do to deserve that fate? What did the student do to deserve that fate?
