Notes from Penn State's practice

All of Penn State's backs were practicing at full speed, including Bill Belton, who had both ankles wrapped tightly, and Mike Zordich, who had a black brace on his left knee.

Most of the focus at Penn State's practice on Wednesday was Bill O'Brien informing reporters that quarterback turned tight end Paul Jones had left the team.

While that is a concern for the long term at Penn State, the short term prognosis for the Nittany Lions looks good.

All of Penn State's backs were practicing at full speed, including Bill Belton, who had both ankles wrapped tightly, and Mike Zordich, who had a black brace on his left knee.

Belton, the Nittany Lions' No. 1 running back, has been sidelined since the fourth quarter of the season-opener against Ohio with an ankle injury. O'Brien said earlier this week that he -- along with Zordich (bruised left knee), Curtis Dukes (thigh) and Derek Day (shoulder) -- were expected to be back for the Big Ten opener against Illinois.

Left tackle Donovan Smith (ankle) and defensive end Sean Stanley (back) were also practicing.
