More odds on next Penn State coach

The popular name on message boards and social media web sites this week has been Mississippi State's Dan Mullen. ESPN reported Tuesday that Penn State was interested in Mullen to be its next head football coach. Plenty of other names, many of which appear below, have also been thrown around this week.

A six-person search committee to find the next coach was announced Sunday, and Penn State President Rodney Erickson told reporters Wednesday night that he would like the new coach in place before the bowl game.

According to odds published Thursday by Bodog.com, Mullen is the 7-4 favorite to get the job. Below is a list of the rest of the candidates and their odds be the coach to succeed recently fired coach Joe Paterno, according to Bodog.

Kevin Sumlin (Houston) 3-1

Tim Murphy (Harvard) 4-1

Greg Schiano (Rutgers) 5-1

Jim Caldwell (Indianapolis Colts) 15-1

Tom Bradley (Penn State interim coach) 20-1

For the sake of comparison, this list looks very different from the one we examined Nov. 11 - just two days after Paterno was fired by the Board of Trustees. That list had Urban Meyer, who was announced as Ohio State's new football coach on Monday, the 2-1 favorite to be Penn State's next coach. Al Golden had 9-2 odds just a few weeks ago but has since signed a contract extension with Miami.
