Penn State improved to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the Big Ten with its down-to-the-wire 23-18 win over Purdue (3-3, 1-1 Big Ten) on Saturday Beaver Stadium.

-Rob Bolden and Matt McGloin continued to split time at quarterback for Penn State. Bolden started for the seventh game in a row but McGloin played nine offensive series to Bolden's four. McGloin was 8-of-17 for 145 yards and an interception, while Bolden was 2-of-6 for 40 yards.

-Silas Redd had his third straight 100-yard rushing game. The sophomore had 132 yards on 28 carries and a touchdown.

-The Nittany Lions' defense didn't play as well as it had been as of late but had three timely interceptions. The defense's 17 turnovers matches its total from all of last season.

-Coach Joe Paterno spent the whole game coaching from the press box. When asked after the game Paterno said his leg and hip were still hurting, but it was nothing serious.

"It's just that I'm getting to be a sissy in my old age," Paterno joked, "I can't handle it and I'm fighting a cold. I just thought it would be better. If I can't move around down there, I get in the way. Everybody's worrying, 'Where is Paterno? Where's coach?' That's not fair. So anyway, I decided I was going to stay upstairs for this one. I think next week I'll be back on the sideline, hopefully."

-Senior cornerback D'Anton Lynn returned to the field for the first time since sustaining a head injury against Eastern Michigan on Sept. 24. Lynn said he was a little timid at the start of the game but as he started playing he became more comfortable.

"I just needed one big hit and I finally got a good hit in the fourth quarter and after that I felt like I was able to take the pain off my shoulders and I felt ready," Lynn said.

-Cornerback Stephon Morris also returned to the field. He missed last week's game with an ankle injury. Running back Brandon Beachum and wide receiver Curtis Drake did not play.
