McGloin to start at Ohio State

The numbers don’t lie when determining Matt McGloin’s value to Penn State in the three games — all victories — he has played. The redshirt sophomore from Scranton has passed for seven touchdowns against one interception since coming on for injured freshman Rob Bolden in an Oct. 23 win at Minnesota. He ranks fifth in pass efficiency among Big Ten quarterbacks in conference games, ahead of Northwestern’s Dan Persa and Wisconsin’s Scott Tolzien. That success has earned McGloin another start from coach Joe Paterno, Saturday on the road against No. 8 Ohio State. But Paterno said Tuesday that run was due in part to the offense’s improvement as a whole.
