Despite the long pause and vague answer, quarterback Pat Devlin is not planning on transferring, his father, Mark, told The Inquirer last night. After being named the backup to Daryll Clark, Devlin didn't give the most affirmative of answers when he was asked about transferring yesterday during a conference call. But Mark Devlin reiterated that the Devlins are sticking with the Lions.

Also, Clark reflects on his winning the job, but he admits there could be a few pitfalls in the early going.

When Devlin is the starter next year, his 2 seasons will be more successful than Morelli's.

This is why PSU never has a good QB. Devlin was a highly-touted recruit heading to Miami. Then he decided to transfer to PSU. You would think PSU would be thrilled about it's luck, but instead Devlin just goes to the bench.

Hey bird-dog it is not very difficult to have more success than Morelli considering he was terrible!! This is why no big name players go to PSU anymore.

Read the report of the Arizona Cardinals scoout before they picked up Morelli. He said that Morelli had all the tools for a successful NFL QB but had been "acutely under coached." Devlin's just another victim of a worthless QB coach in Jay Paterno. Scary how quickly coaching nepotism can destroy a premier program.

seconnol: that's an amazing quote, but unfortunatley not surprising.

With Paterno under control, Pat won't have 2 yrs to start. It'll be Clark for two years barring a Senneca like performance. Morelli never got yanked to give Clark a shot. Why do we think Devlin gets a shot???

doorspj24 writes " seconnol: that's an amazing quote, but unfortunately not surprising." Why is this an amazing quote? What do you and seconnol expect the Cardinals to say? That they just signed a prospect that has no feel for the game and except for a strong arm, doesn't bring much? Come on. They said exactly what the fans love to hear. That maybe the Cardinals uncovered a hidden gem and all he needs is the brilliant coaching the Cardinals staff brings to the table. Their comments were about as self serving as it gets. Now I don't know how good or bad of a coach Jay is but I'm guessing he is not as bad as some people think and maybe not as good as his dad thinks. There is the possibility that he got the best that was possible from Morelli. Time will tell but I doubt Morelli will turn into a great pro quarterback. With lots of hard work and a few years on the practice squad maybe he makes it as a borderline reserve. Expecting anything more would be pushing reality.

How can Clark play next season, too, PhillyNittanyLion? He's a senior. That means he graduates this year...

I am sure I will get lit up for this post, but I just looked at PSU's stats yesterday and was surprised to see that Morelli is 5th in all time passing yrds, 6th in TD passes, and 2nd in completeions (how crazy is that??)

Well someone needs to clear this up for certain then. I can't foresee Devlin sitting until his senior year. The guy could be great, if Jay Paterno hasn't ruined him yet.

This is his 4th year of school. Academically, he is a senior. He came to PSU as a partial qualifer. He had to earn a certain amount of credits towards graduation to even get considered for a 5th year (football aside). He is ahead of schedule and will have two remaining seasons. http://pennstate.scout.com/a.z?s=157&p=8&c=2&nid=688&yr=2008
