Depth chart

The depth chart for Saturday's Coastal Carolina game was released a little early and, as predicted, it listed Daryll Clark OR Pat Devlin as the starter. Joe Paterno most likely won't say who's the guy during tomorrow's teleconference, but Clark and Devlin, who have conference calls with the media Wednesday morning, may have some further insight.

Before we get to the depth chart, a few observations:
1. At offensive tackle, it only goes two deep, which tells you something about the depth at this position. Starting right tackle Dennis Landolt is even listed as the backup to left tackle Gerald Cadogen. If all remain healthy, however, this is one of the best Lions' lines in years. Dare I say 1994 (not that I'm comparing it to that line)?
2.  Andrew Quarless is behind Mickey Shuler and Andrew Szczerba at tight end. How long before he's back with the first team?
3. No shock here, Evan Royster is tops at running back. Stephfon Green is next.
4. Defensive tackle Tom McEowen isn't listed anywhere. He's was expected to perhaps backup Ollie Ogbu, but he's been besiged by a shoulder injury and that could be the reason for the absence.
5. The threesome at linebacker is the same as it was at the conclusion of the spring: Outside guys Tyrell Sales and Bani Gbadyu and middle guy Josh Hull. These depth charts are a blueprint, remember, so nothing is set in stone.
6. If there was one mini surprise it's that Lydell Sargeant OR A.J. Wallace was listed as the probable starter at right cornerback. This is most likely because Wallace was behind because of a strained hamstring. Tony Davis beat out Sargeant on the left side. If Wallace doesn't start Saturday, he'll get his spot back soon.
