Commit Nos. 17 and 18

Penn State landed its 17th and 18th commitments from the Class of 2009 over the last few days. On Sunday, while visiting State College for the Illinois game, Manahawkin, N.J. linebacker Glenn Carson gave the Nittany Lions his pledge. According to scout.com, Carson is a four-star prospect and the nation's seventh-best middle linebacker. And then Tuesday morning, Waldorf, Md. recruit Devon Smith committed to Penn State. A speedy defensive back, Smith was also in Happy Valley over the weekend.

I actually saw Smith at a scouting combined held at Rutgers in May. I think he ran a 4.31 40-yard dash. Obviously, he's fast, but at 5-8, 145 pounds, he looks like he could break in two with one good hit.
