Clark blacks out

Penn State quarterback Daryll Clark said this morning on a conference call that he blacked out for approximately seven minutes during the fourth quarter of the Ohio State game. The junior had his bell rung with around 13 minutes to play in the game. Center A.Q. Shipley could be seen holding up two fingers and asking Clark how many digits he was holding up (he couldn't answer) after the play. Clark, though, continue to play for the rest of the series. He was replaced by backup Pat Devlin on the next series, however, as doctors decided he suffered a mild concussion.

Clark said that he fully expects to play Saturday at Iowa, however. He's undergone a number of tests and has been practicing with the team with a green cross across his jersey, meaning he's off limits to the defense.

Clark also responded to a recent statement made by former Oklahoma coach Barry Switzer that there were four or five quarterbacks among the nation's top teams that were better under center than the Lions quarterback. "I've heard what he had to say," Clark said. "If that's what he feels, that's what he feels." Coach Joe Paterno was asked a similar question about Switzer's comments yesterday. Paterno didn't miss the opportunity to take a swipe against a coach he's often teased. "Coming from a good friend of mine, Barry Switzer, who's only theory was, 'Could the quarterback run?' when he was running the wishbone. And whom my offensive coordinator was his offensive coordinator for ten years, Galen Hall, I don't pay much attention to Barry," Paterno said.
