Penn State's primetime game against undefeated Ohio State will kick off at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 27, the Big Ten announced.

The game will air on ESPN.

Penn State has made an offer to junior college quarterback Jake Waters, several recruiting sites have reported.

The reports say Penn State quarterbacks coach Charlie Fisher was in Iowa on Tuesday scouting Waters at practice. Waters plays for Western Community College, the nation’s top-ranked junior college.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound quarterback has put up pretty nice statistics through six games this season: 1,696 yards, 22 touchdowns and a 73.7 completion percentage. Waters, who did not receiver any scholarship offers out of high school, currently has bids from Kansas State, North Carolina State and Akron.

Waters might not be the only junior college player Bill O’Brien and his staff check out in the near future.

“We’ll be interested in recruiting and taking a look at post-graduate guys at prep schools and junior college guys,” O’Brien told reporters before practice on Wednesday. “The number one thing is they have to be good students and high character guys. That’s number one.”

Adding Waters for 2013 would give Penn State depth at quarterback, which the Nittany Lions need. Since Paul Jones left the program, Penn State has only one scholarship quarterback -- freshman Steven Bench -- on its roster returning next year.

Five star quarterback prospect Christian Hackenberg is committed to Penn State. National signing day is on Feb. 6, 2013.

Having a bye week amidst a four game-winning streak seems like bad timing for Penn State.

A 0-2 start after a tumultuous 10 months have quickly morphed into feel good vibes for the Nittany Lions. They won their Big Ten road opener and knocked off a ranked opponent at home.

So two weeks between games is bad timing, right? It’s a momentum-killer. It breaks up the season.

Four Big Ten players were among the 25 quarterfinalists for the Lombardi Award, given annually to the top linebacker or lineman in the country.

To many people's surprise, Penn State linebacker Mike Mauti did not make the cut. Neither did Gerald Hodges.

Snubbed? Considering their performances through the first six games, yes. Especially Mauti, who has earned two Big Ten defensive player of the week awards and one national defensive player of the week honor.

When Michael Zordich zig-zagged through Northwestern's defense and into the end zone for a two-point conversion in the fourth quarter, Bill O'Brien clinched both of his hands in fists and threw them in the air.

The Nittany Lions, once down 11 points, were now within three of the then-No. 24 Wildcats.

When Pete Massaro took the field against Northwestern on Saturday, he wasn't thinking about his knee. He was thinking about his shoulder, but only a little bit.

For the most part, he was just thinking about how good it felt to be back.

"I'm finally confident that I'm getting better," Massaro said.
