QB becomes Penn State's first 2017 commit

Sean Clifford, of Ohio, orally committed to the Nittany Lions on Monday, becoming the team's first commit in the 2017 class.

Penn State has picked up its first 2017 commit: consensus four-star quarterback Sean Clifford.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound signal-caller, who attends St. Xavier High School in Ohio,  also received offers from Michigan State, Kentucky, Louisville, Missouri, and Pitt. He received his offer from Penn State after an elite camp in June.

Clifford announced his decision Monday morning in a tweet:

Clifford then began retweeting messages of support from friends and fans, and wrote of his desire to help draw other 2017 recruits to Happy Valley.

Another four-star quarterback, Jake Zembiec, has committed to the Nittany Lions' 2016 class.

Clifford's commitment marks the latest success for Penn State recruiting. Coach James Franklin and his staff now have 16 players committed to the 2016 class.
