Doggone

It might have made a good picture.

It could have been a picture. Might have even been a good one.

I was waiting in the kitchen of the Governor's Mansion Sunday morning, along with Inquirer Harrisburg Correspondent Mario Cattabiani, for Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell. We were going to  interview him, and watch him as went through his morning exercise routine (he's lost almost 40 pounds since reaching a personal high of 265 pounds in the spring).

But first he was doing a live discussion on ESPN's Outside the Lines - about reaction to the Eagles signing Michael Vick. That's the governor on the left, along with Philadelphia Magazine editor Larry Platt, center, and Philadelphia Daily News sports columnist John Smallwood.

And those are the food and water dishes for his two dogs, Ginger and Maggie. They're both former breeding females who were rescued from commercial kennels and adopted by the Rendells.

I could hear them barking. but the dogs didn't come into the room until the Governor did, after he was off the television.
