Wood, North Catholic sweep District 12 titles

No surprise here. Philadelphia Catholic League teams swept today’s District 12 Class AAA and Class AA boys’ soccer championships against Public League counterparts at Northeast Charles Martin Memorial Stadium. Archbishop Wood defeated Franklin Towne Charter, 10-0, in the Class AA final. Following that game, North Catholic beat George Washington, 3-0, in the Class AAA final.

No surprise here.

Philadelphia Catholic League teams swept today's District 12 Class AAA and Class AA boys' soccer championships against Public League counterparts at Northeast's Charles Martin Memorial Stadium.

Archbishop Wood defeated Franklin Towne Charter, 10-0, in the Class AA final. Afterward, North Catholic beat George Washington, 3-0, in the Class AAA final.

North Catholic (16-1-3) built a 2-0 cushion in the 12th minute.

Freshman forward Christian Hall tapped the ball into the net from a couple of yards out in the fifth minute. The second goal came on Mike Gredzik's penalty kick in the 12th minute.

The Falcons went ahead 3-0 on Nick Stangle's goal in the 72d minute.

In the Class AA game, seven Vikings (19-1-1) scored at least once. Rob McIntyre, Craig McDonald and Joe Getz each scored twice. Senior forward James Peden had a goal and an assist. Wood held a commanding 19-1 shots-on-goal advantage.

Franklin Towne Charter (6-6) played without four starters. Coyotes coach Casey Huckel said they missed the game because of injuries and disciplinary reasons.
