Glen Mills spoiled Chester's shot at its first outright Del-Val League football championship since 1997, winning Saturday's game by 30-15 at the Chester School District Athletic Field. The Clippers closed the league season with a 4-1 mark. They'll probably share the Del-Val crown with Gen Mills (2-1) and 10-time defending champ Interboro (3-1). That is, unless Glen Mills slips up against either Academy Park (Oct. 24) or Penn Wood (Nov. 1). That's not likely. Neither is it it likely that Interboro will drop its Oct. 31 league finale against Chichester. Chester, now 5-3 overall, also suffered a major blow in its bid for a first PIAA District 1 Class AAAA playoff berth. The Clippers finish with two nonleague games, vs. Caravel Academy and Simon Gratz, so they still have a shot. Glen Mills, at 6-2, is on the inside track to return to the AAAA playoffs. Interboro, at 5-3, is in jeopardy of not making it back to the AAAA playoffs. The Bucs lost to archrival Ridley in the first round last year.
