St. Basil Academy senior Tish Derer recently gave an oral commitment to play softball at Monmouth University.
The second baseman chose the Hawks' scholarship over an offer from La Salle.
"It's a really nice campus right near the beach," Derer said of picking Monmouth. "And I like the team a lot and the coach [Carol Sullivan]."
The three-time all-Athletic Association of Catholic Academies selection is being recruited to play shortstop for the Hawks.
"It's nice to know where I am going," Derer said of making a decision. "It feels good."
A two-sport standout, Derer tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee during a girls' soccer match against Cardinal O'Hara on Oct. 4. The injury ended her soccer season.
Derer said she'll be back on the field in time for softball season in the spring.
