Four-run third inning for the Catholic League
Archbishop Wood sophomore Kyle McCrossen hit an RBI double, driving in the Catholic League's sixth run.
Neumann-Goretti senior catcher Joey Armata crushed two-run double to left-centerfield for the Catholic League, increasing the lead to 5-0.
Archbishop Wood centerfielder Brian O'Grady, who singled to start the top of the third inning, scored the Catholic League's third run on a balk.
St. Joe Prep righthander Kevin Gillen of the Catholic League got out of a bases loaded jam with one out in the second. Gillen got a pop out and a flyout to centerfield to end the inning.
Gillen didn't look as sharp as he did in the opening round, but he's got the job done with two scorless innings before being relieved in the third by North Catholic junior RHP Ryan Etsell.
The Philadelphia Catholic League jumped to a 2-0 lead on a towering two-run home run to rightfield by junior first baseman Mark Donato of Neumann-Goretti.
What a shot! Carpenter Cup officials estimate it went 405 feet.
The Thursday Carpenter Cup game between Jersey Shore and Burlington County that was scheduled for 2 p.m. has been postponed due to the inclement weather.
The game will now be played 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the University of Pennsylvania's Meiklejohn Stadium.

Due to expected inclement weather, the Carpenter Cup has announced changes, scheduling just one game for Thursday and moving one to Friday, when there will now be three games played.
The one game for Thursday also has a time change.

Lehigh Valley pitchers recorded 12 strikeouts in beating the Inter-Ac/Independents 3-1 during today's final first round Carpenter Cup game at the University of Pennsylvania's Meiklejohn Stadium.
The winners now meet Suburban One League National/Bicentennial Athletic League in Friday's 12:30 p.m. quarterfinal
In the seventh inning Lehigh Valley extended its lead to 3-1 on a sacrifice fly by Scott Kalamar.
In the sixth inning, Lehigh Valley broke a 1-1 tie on an RBI single by Joe Abeln.
Daniel Johnson got things started for Lehigh Valley with a one-out double that was misplayed in rightfield in the sixth inning. He moved to third on a groundout before scoring on Abeln's single.
A fourth inning sacrifice fly by Lehigh Valley's Drew Hercik tied the score at 1-1.
Inter-Ac/Independents took a 1-0 lead on a bases loaded walk to Malvern Prep junior Ty Young in the second inning.
Germantown Academy junior righthander Keenan Kish looked impressive in pitching three hitless innings for Inter-Ac/Independents.
Penn Charter freshman righthander Ken Koplove, brother of current Triple-A pitcher Mike Koplove, was the losing pitcher. Ken Koplove allowed two runs in four innings, but could have fared better if some balls weren't misplayed.

Defending Carpenter Cup champion, Suburban One League National/Bicentennial Athletic League has advanced to the quarterfinal with today's 7-3 win over Berks County in an opening round game at the University of Pennsylvania's Meiklejohn Stadium.
SOL National/Bicentennial will play the winner of this afternoon's second game between Lehigh Valley and Inter-Ac/Independents in Friday's 12:30 p.m. quarterfinal at Meiklejohn Stadium.
The winners scored their final run in the eighth inning.
Abington senior Corey Hower drove in the seventh run on a fielder's choice.
Berks County scored one run in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Central Catholic's Chris Lloyd.
The SOL National/Bicentennial had scored three runs in the top of the sixth to take a 6-2 lead.
Council Rock North senior Matt Hone hit an RBI double and his team also received sacrifice flies from Council Rock North senior Kelly Adams and Bristol junior Adam Moore
Berks County cut the lead to 3-2 with one run in the fifth inning, but it could have been more. SOL National/Bicentennial rightifielder Tyler Orr of Neshaminy threw a laser to the plate to nail Blaise Fernandez at home.
Junior Ryan Seiz of Christopher Dock just missed a home run, but he still keyed a two-run fifth inning for the SOL National/Bicentennial.
Seiz crushed a triple that hit the centerfield fence, driving in Council Rock sophomore Billy Fleming, who had singled, to break a 1-1 tie. SOL Nat/Bicen then extended the lead to 3-1 when Greg Olenski of Holy Ghost Prep drove in Seiz with an RBI double
Olenski scored his team's first run after a teammate hit into a double play in the top of the fourth inning. The game is now in the top of the fifth inning.
Kyle Hartman's RBI double in the bottom of the third inning gave Berks a 1-0 lead.
Berks threatened in the first inning with runners on second and third and one out, but SOL National/Bicentennial pitcher Josh Patman of Truman, got a popout and then was saved by rightfielder Nick Mascioli of Delco Christian, who made what is so far the best catch of the tournament.
Charging the ball, Mascioli made a diving catch, stretching his body as far as he could go.
SOL Nat/Bicen also got out of the second with a defensive gem as second baseman Brian Fiocco of Neshaminy made a diving stop of a grounder and flipped it to his Neshaminy teammate Rick Brebner for the final out at second base.

Kevin Gillen of St. Joseph's Prep pitched three shutout innings and Archbishop Wood junior centerfielder Brian O'Grady had three hits and two RBIs as the Philadelphia Catholic League beat Chester County, 9-2 in today's opening round Carpenter Cup baseball game.
The Catholic League will play Mercer County in Friday's 9 a.m. quarterfinal game at the University of Pennsylvania's Meiklejohn Stadium.
The Catholic League broke the game open with four runs in the bottom of the fifth to increase its lead to 9-2.
In the fifth inning, the Catholic League received a two-run double by Neumann-Goretti junior Michael Riverso and a two-run single by O'Grady.
Chester County cut the Philadelphia Catholic League's lead to 5-2 on a two-run triple in the top of the fourth inning to rightfield by sophomore leftfielder Thomas Spitz of West Chester East.
The Philadelphia Catholic League took a 5-0 lead with four runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Neumann-Goretti junior Albert Baur hit a 2-run double to rightfield to start the scoring in the third inning.
After Baur's hit, Chester County changed pitchers, bringing in junior righthander Colin Taylor of Avon Grove.
LaSalle's Tyler Freeman greeted Taylor with a two-run single.
St. Joseph Prep senior righthander Kevin Gillen pitched three shutout innings for the Catholic League.
A pitcher is allowed to throw no more than three innings per game according to Carpenter Cup rules.
In the first inning the Catholic League scored an unearned run for the game's lone run.

Mercer County used a balanced attack and excellent pitching to defeat Delaware South, 8-1 in today's opening round Carpenter Cup baseball game.
Starting pitcher Kyle Reed of West Windsor Plainsboro North earned the win, allowing one run in three innings. Junior lefthander Colin Holmes of Ewing followed with three scorless innings.
Senior righthander Brian Witkowski of Notre Dame pitched two hitless innings while junior Kevin Fitzell of Lawrence added a scoreless frame.
Senior second baseman Tyler Cignarella of Hopewell went 2 for 2 with two RBIs for the winners.
Mercer County advances to Friday's 9 a.m. quarterfinal against the winner of today's later game between the Philadelphia Catholic League and Chester County.
Trailing 1-0, Mercer County took the lead for good with three runs in the top of the fourth inning. Cignarella hit a two-run triple and scored on an RBI single by his Hopewell classmate Ben Meer.
Delaware South righthander Tommy Dill, a junior from Poly Tech, pitched three shutout innings and left with a 1-0 lead.
According to Carpenter Cup rules a pitcher is able to throw a maximum of three innings per game.
Delaware South sophomore shortstop Devon Reed of Milford singled, stole second and third and scored on a groundout by first baseman Jeff Fleetwood of Delmar in the bottom of the first inning.

BURLINGTON COUNTY 11, DELAWARE COUNTY 8 - FINAL
Burlington County has advanced to the second round of the Carpenter Cup baseball tournament with today's 11-8 win over Delaware County.
The winners will meet Jersey Shore in Thursday's 12:30 p.m. second round game at the University of Pennsylvania's Meiklejohn Stadium.
Lenape senior rightfielder Ryan Fletcher went 3 for 3 with three runs scored and three RBIs for Burlington County.
Delaware County sophomore catcher Norm Donkin of Ridley went 3 for 3 with two runs scored while Garnet Valley freshman Joe DeCarlo hit a solo home run.
Leading 7-6, Burlco scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning.
Cherokee's Tyler Power contributed his second sacrifice fly of the game for the ninth run. Delco has been hurt by its defense, having committed four errors.
Delaware County scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut Burlco's lead to 7-6.
Delco got a sacrifice fly from Garnet Valley senior Kyle Davis and an RBI groundout from Springfield Delco senior Mike DeLaney.
Burlington County took a 7-4 lead with four runs in the top of the seventh.
Burlco tied the score 4-4 on an RBI single by Fletcher.
A sacrifice fly by Powell to deep centerfielder gave Burlco a 5-4 lead.
Burlington County then scored on a fielder's choice and a wild pitch to extend the lead to 7-4.
Delaware County scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 4-3 lead.
Garnet Valley's DeCarlo hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the score and Garnet Valley junior Jake Dickerson just hit an RBI single to give Delco the lead.
A two-run single by Fletcher in the top of the fifth inning had given Burlington County a 3-2 in the top of the fifth inning.
Delco scored two runs in the bottom of the third on an RBI double by Dickerson and an RBI single by Strath Haven junior Mike Raimo.
Delaware County righthander Slater McCue, a junior from Conestoga, was extremely impressive, throwing three scoreless innings.
Seneca sophomore righthander looked sharp in pitching two shutout innings for Burlington County.

Jersey Shore defeated the Philadelphia Public League 15-0 in a 7-inning game Carpenter Cup baseball game at the University of Pennsylvania's Meiklejohn Stadium.
Normally nine innings, this Carpenter Cup game was halted after seven innings due to rain.
Todd Juliano of Shore Regional hit a two-run home run on a ball that was lost in the sun in leftfield in the fifth inning. That extended the lead to 9-0.
A two-run triple by Chris Hueth of St. Rose, knocked starter Stephen Schall of Central out of the game during a six-run third inning. Lefthander Brian Sustan of Northeast came in relief for the Public League.
In the top of the second inning Public League senior designated hitter Tim Freiling of Northeast led off with a double, but after advancing to thrid on a groundout, was stranded as Jersey Shore righthander Matt Marley of Red Bank Catholic recorded consecutive strikeouts.

Big Relief As Tri-Cape Beat Delaware North
The Tri-Cape received seven shutout innings from its bullpen during yesterday's 3-2 win over Delaware North in a first-round Carpenter baseball game at the University of Pennsylvania's Meiklejohn Stadium.
South Jersey's Tri-Cape will now meet the Suburban One League American/Continental in Thursday's 9 a.m. second round game at Meiklejohn Stadium The SOL American/Continental beat the Olympic/Colonial, 10-7 in the first game.
Delaware North used a two-run single by Salesianum sophomore first baseman Greg Rostick off Millville righthander Josh O'Neil in the first inning to take the early lead.
O'Neil then pitched a scoreless second inning and the bullpen followed his lead.
Middle Township senior lefthander Scott DeCecco pitched two scoreless innings for Tri-Cape. That was followed by a shutout inning by Hammonton junior righthander Josh Carty.
Cumberland junior righthander Andrew Owens then pitched three scorless innings, striking out five and allowing just one hit.
Holy Spirit junior righthander Tyler Petsch earned the save with a scorelss ninth inning
A two-out RBI double in the top of the sixth inning by Vineland's Anthony Parker broke a 2-2 tie.
Trailing 2-0, Tri-Cape scored twice in the fourth inning beginning with a solo home run by senior catcher Juan Velazquez of Sacred Heart. The second run in the inning scored when Deptford's Max McCarthy crossed the plate on a wild pitch.

The Suburban One League American and Continental opened play in the 24th annual Carpenter Cup baseball tournament with a 10-7 win today over South Jersey's Olympic/Colonial at the University of Pennsylvania's Meiklejohn Stadium.
Quakertown junior Jayson Rathjens had four RBIs on a three-run home run and an RBI groundout. His home run came during a six-run fifth inning.
Keith Moyer, a junior from Souderton earned the win with one scoreless inning.
Methacton senior shortstop Todd Rubendall went 3 for 3 with two doubles and two RBIs for the winners.
Paulsboro's Casey Grimes has hit a three-run home run for the Olympic/Colonial.

ALTOONA -- Another stellar effort from ace righthander Eric Ruth. Error-free defense, including a key 6-3-5 double play in the fourth. A 2-for-3 showing from No. 9 batter Mark Grassie. It all added up to a 3-1 victory for North Penn in th the PIAA Class AAAA final at Blair County Ballpark, home of the double-A Altoona Curve.
Leadoff man Robbie Zinsmeister (Indiana University of Pennsylvania) went 2 for 4 (RBI double in fifth) and two runs scored. No. 2 Just Davey (West Chester, 2 for 3) had an RBI triple in the seventh. No. 3 Scott Christy (Alvernia) had an RBI single to right in the fifth. Christian Radick and DH Craig Lepre had the other hits.
The Knights became the first District 1 team to win a large-school title since West Chester East, this year's district champ, beat Bethel Park in 2003.
