When did Vick break ribs?

When did Michael Vick break his ribs?

Does it even matter?

If you want to know if Vick’s well-below average outing Sunday against the Cardinals was because he broke two ribs on the second play of the game or because he was simply bad then it does matter. Vick did not tell the Eagles about the injury until Monday morning.

Eagles coach Andy Reid said Monday and reiterated again on Wednesday that Vick broke his ribs when Arizona linebacker Daryl Washington hit the quarterback on his left side just after he threw a pass on the Eagles’ second play from scrimmage. Vick did not leave the game and played every offensive snap for the next three quarters.

However, in the fourth quarter as he scrambled Vick was hit on the lower left region of his back --  the direct spot he located the broken ribs to reporters on Monday -- by linebacker Paris Lenon. Vick did not get up for some time, but eventually walked off on his own. He missed the next play – Vince Young took over – but Vick returned for the Eagles’ next series and finished the game.

During a spot on 94.1-WIP the other day and again on Wednesday at the NovaCare Complex, Eagles running back LeSean McCoy said that he thought the injury occurred on the fourth quarter play. After he was told that Reid said it happened on the second play, McCoy deferred to this head coach.

Reid, on Wednesday, was asked about the discrepancy and how he knew Vick broke his ribs on the second play.

“Mike told us after the game,” Reid said.

How would Vick know if he broke his ribs then?

“He doesn’t have x-ray vision,” Reid said. “He was sore, I guess. I’m not sure anybody knew. He didn’t tell anybody, so he just played.”

Reid was then asked about the fourth quarter hit and whether that could have been the blow that broke Vick’s ribs.

“When I walked out, he was down, he told me that he had the wind knocked out of him,” Reid said. “That’s what he said. He didn’t say anything about ribs or anything else, he said he had the wind knocked out of him. When he was out there he sounded like he had the wind knocked out of him.”

But it still could have broken his ribs, right?

“Whatever you want to write, you write,” Reid said. “I told you the second play of game, what more do you want him to do? This isn’t the game of ‘Clue,’ you know, I’m telling you the second play of the game.”

Vick had his worst game as an Eagle. He completed just 16 of 34 passes for 128 yards and did not throw a touchdown. He did toss two interceptions and finished with a 32.5 passer rating.

Vick did not practice Wednesday and his availability for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants is up in the air. The 3-6 Eagles obviously need a victory. Vince Young will likely be his replacement if he can’t go.

“If Michael has an opportunity to play then Michael will play, and then we go from there,” Reid said.

Reid said that third stringer Mike Kafka would take some reps during Wednesday’s practice.

It seems kind of simple. Daryl Washington hit him with a shoulder directly on the left side, on the ribs, with Vick's arm up after completing his throwing motion. You wrote that Vick was hit in the back in the 4th quarter. He was not on the ground, so the ground couldn't break his ribs on impact. What is with the conspiracy theory nonsense on this? He doesn't need x-ray vision to know if he felt something crack. Did Ryan Howard need x-ray vision to know he snapped his Achilles? SMDH

So Reid never goes off-script until he wants to take a dig at a reporter. This will just get uglier until he is relieved of his duties shortly after this disaster of a season.

When ??? does it mater...Michael is a warrior and never ever wants to come out.....and he has played with worse.....Problem may be that his coach does not protect him with qualtiy players in the o-line and his failure to use the number 1 running back in the league to keep the defense honest.....but then again, I forgot Andy is "the greatest football genius" in the NFL who does not own a ring or has won a SB...my bad...

Reid is a proven LIAR....he lies to the fans and media all the time....now Reid is lying again to when Vick hurt his ribs, Reid said it was in the first quarter (instead of the last quarter) because that GIVES VICK AN EXCUSE for the awful game Vick had....Reid always has an EXCUSE for Vick's poor performance...Reid is a proven liar...period.

Tony Romo last month broke two ribs PLUS he had a collapsed lung. and Romo stayed in the game and led his team to a win....Romo NEVER missed a single game because of those broken ribs....Romo has more guts than Vick.

Frank, genius, Mike Vick said when he broke the ribs. It wasn't Reid's idea. In all your continued belligerence, truth is always a victim.

Reid my lips. Reid will not be fired. Vick will miss several games, all losses, and Banner/Laurie will blame the lost season on an injured Vick. The concussion game, the game following the concussion when Vick had no business playing. Now the whole AZ game was lost to another Vick injury, as will be the next game even if Vick were to play.

If we're lucky, Reid will have to fire his coordinators and get some new thinking from outside his bubble. Someone who can draft would be nice. I'm not betting on it. No matter how burned out we can all see Reid is, there's no way Laurie moves on from the Reid era before the end of next year at the earliest.

Phila Phans: Reid is lying to you dopey...how would Vick know when he broke his ribs, they didn't take any x-rays during the game....and Vick was knocked out of the game in the last quarter when replays showed he was hit exactly where his ribs were broken...Keep drinking the Reid kool aid idiot, that's why Reid keeps lying to you.

TongueWagger: You are exactly right....Reid will blame this awful season on Vick injuries, so Reid can not be blamed...pathetic.

Wheather Reid lies or not the season is over and we just have to chalk it up to another sucky season by the Eagles. We lived through the Phillies disappointing season and now we have this.....I am already looking forward to baseball season once more, come on April!

I'd like to see Young at QB. Has he learned enough in his time here to become a complete QB? If he fails in the 1st half, go to Kafka. I thought he was fine in his first appearance, terrible in his 2nd. Both of them may win more games for us than Vick.

finally the reporters start asking some tough questions lol, about 5 years too late, but OK, and in about 5 seconds of asking a moderately throught provoking question the guy proves to you how dumb he is. Do you really think Mike Vick broke his ribs, plays the entire game relatvily fine, and then all of a sudden after a hit in the 4th qtr. he can just no longer bear it and the hit in the first quarter had nothing to do with the that one. Mike Probably said he "felt" something or took a hit to the rubs in the first quarter as well but didnt specify so Reid decided to tell the meda that they were broken on the 2nd play. yea real convenient Andy...brilliant. this guy is one of the DUMBEST coaches in the ENTIRE LEAGUE, not just head coach, ANY COACH. Mike Tice is up there too, and that guy got fired and is now an OC coach in Chicago for a reason. Andy will be a QB coach again, like he should be. Thats the only position he has ever been part of a championship team, NOT AS OC, NOT AS VP OF PLAYER PERSONELL, NOT AS HEAD COACH. NEVER. NOT AS ANY ONE OF THOSE POSITIONS. Quarterback Coach, THATS IT. HE WILL NEVER WIN A SB AS A HEAD COACH BEING IN CHARGE OF EVERYTHING. TERRIBLE IDEA. NEVER.

Off subject and not meant to directly criticize Shady since he has obviously been the Eagles MVP so far. During his appearance on sports radio the other night, Shady asked Ike Reese "are the Giants in first place?". If he didn't know who's in first place, he likely didn't know how many games they were behind in the division and ,ultimately, couldn't realize how vital Sunday's game was to the Eagles making the playoffs! How many other players on the team are that oblivious to the standings?
