BRAYLON EDWARDS, ANYONE?

POSTED: Monday, March 23, 2009, 12:18 PM

During an interview on the Eagles' web site last week, coach Andy Reid said he liked his wide receivers, which no doubt drew a collective groan from a lot of fans.

Here's the thing to always remember about Reid: It's always about what he does and never about what he says.

This isn't the first time Reid has said he is happy with his receivers and it won't be the last. That doesn't mean the Eagles aren't going to make a play for another receiver this offseason and Reid has a point. The combination of DeSean Jackson, Kevin Curtis, Hank Baskett and Jason Avant isn't bad at all.

Reid's mantra, however, has always been that if he feels the Eagles can get better at a particular position, then they will at least try to do that.

The Eagles obviously didn't think T.J. Houshmanzadeh or any of the other free agent receivers represented enough of an upgrade to pursue.

Two receivers who could eventually be available on the trade market would represent significant upgrades. The one everybody is talking about is Anquan Boldin from the Arizona Cardinals. The other guy is Cleveland's Braylon Edwards. Mike Garafolo from the Newark Star Ledger and Ken Palmer of Scout.com have both reported that the New York Giants have made trade proposals for Edwards.

If I'm the Eagles, I'd get in on the Edwards action because he has the size and ability to be a difference maker. Yes, he led the league in drops last season, but that was with an awful Cleveland team. Put him on a contending Eagles team and he could have a T.O.-type year. We're talking about 2004 T.O., not the 2005 model.

Braylon Edwards is a tempermental guy who as a Brown only cranked it up when he was on national TV, like he did last year in the Eagles Monday night game. Otherwise, stone hands as others have said. Combined, he does not seem the Eagles' type.

Edwards is over-rated. He's got stone hands - he's not the upgrade that Bolden is. Bolden or bust!

Absolutely get him. It would be another stupid move by the Eagles not to get him. You forget that he went to the pro-bowl the year before. The Browns were awful last year. The Quarterback situation was awful last year. You can say what you want about drops- TO led the year before last and we know where we went with him in 04. We aint getting Crabtree- we should get a big target for Donovan- and we could prob get him for a reduced price- he was the 2nd overall pick at one point- the guy has potential.

Umm, they werent supposed to be an awful team. Edwards was a big reason they were awful. Wat kind of professional athlete goes out on the practice field without shoes on and somehow lets stallworths cleat tear his foot open? Led the league in drops and basically was a cancer in the locker room. He did have a career day vs gmen on monday night though, thus their interest.

i concur with Rothstein (ARGH it pains me to say) being on a terrible team does not give you a free pass on dropped balls.

If I had to pick between the two WR I will take Anquan over Braylon every time. Anquan is a beast Braylon is a prima dona. Don't get me wrong he has a lot of talent but he does not play every game like its his last. Plus two Anquan is more of a Philly type of guy. No nonsense. He fits the bill.

braylon has more size than boldin, and just as much athletic ability...yes, he dropped alot of balls last year, but that doesnt mean he always will.... im sure the eagles will come up with an excuse, such as him not being familiar with the west coast offense, but the one thing they might like is that he'd coming cheaper than boldin... count me in as interested.... 80 receptions , 16 td's and over 1200 yards in 2007!
