BRAYLON EDWARDS, ANYONE?

POSTED: Monday, March 23, 2009, 12:18 PM

During an interview on the Eagles' web site last week, coach Andy Reid said he liked his wide receivers, which no doubt drew a collective groan from a lot of fans.

Here's the thing to always remember about Reid: It's always about what he does and never about what he says.

This isn't the first time Reid has said he is happy with his receivers and it won't be the last. That doesn't mean the Eagles aren't going to make a play for another receiver this offseason and Reid has a point. The combination of DeSean Jackson, Kevin Curtis, Hank Baskett and Jason Avant isn't bad at all.

Reid's mantra, however, has always been that if he feels the Eagles can get better at a particular position, then they will at least try to do that.

The Eagles obviously didn't think T.J. Houshmanzadeh or any of the other free agent receivers represented enough of an upgrade to pursue.

Two receivers who could eventually be available on the trade market would represent significant upgrades. The one everybody is talking about is Anquan Boldin from the Arizona Cardinals. The other guy is Cleveland's Braylon Edwards. Mike Garafolo from the Newark Star Ledger and Ken Palmer of Scout.com have both reported that the New York Giants have made trade proposals for Edwards.

If I'm the Eagles, I'd get in on the Edwards action because he has the size and ability to be a difference maker. Yes, he led the league in drops last season, but that was with an awful Cleveland team. Put him on a contending Eagles team and he could have a T.O.-type year. We're talking about 2004 T.O., not the 2005 model.

I agree that it's not about what Reid says, but what he does. But then why does he come out and say something that he and EVERYONE knows is not true?! It only infuriates the fans more. The receivers are not terrible, but they can use an upgrade. The year he said that Thrash and Pinkston were good receivers was the ultimate insult.

he would easily be our number 1 and be a great red zone threat. if we cant get boldin i see no harm in going after edwards. disregarding this past season, the season before he was a beast.

Ya know, you people are a riot. Edwards had a bad year last year and everyone thinks thats the only thing he has done. In 2007 he had the following: 2007 Cleveland 16games, 80receptions, 1289yards 80.6Y/G, 16.1avg, 78long, 3.9yac 571st downs, 16TD, now other than the YAC thats was pro bowl season. He would be a HUGE upgrade for a team that is crying out for a top reciever. But like the typical haters that infest this site all you can do is see the bad. And ya wonder why E-A-G-L-E-S fans get a bad rap. All you have to do is read the posts and see that most are still hing over from the NFC game. I would make a deal for Edwards and then laugh at you people all the way to the Super Bowl. In the future try looking at a players entire career and not just there off year. PATHETIC

Edwards is better than any receiver currently on the Eagles roster, how would that NOT be an UPGRADE??

wow, nobody wants him eh. Hes actually a good rec but has the breakout games too few and far between and the drops. Id love it if we took a chance on him, maybe just being around Winslow caused those lapses in focus ha. Id obviously much prefer Boldin who actually seems more trade-able per their respective teams. Why would Browns move him esp if they end up starting Brady Quinn and they lost Winslow.

Bob...That group of receivers is "Not Bad"? Are you kidding me? Not one of them is a 1 or a 2 anywhere else in the league. Is Andy spiking the Press coffee urn with Kool-Aid? One of the funniest things I've ever seen; Andy is all about Pass, Pass and Pass and yet there is not one Pro-Bowl caliber receiver, save T.O. Ha.

What's your poison? Emphasize passing and use running to divert. Conversely, emphasize running and divert with a pass. Since the walking and chewing gum anomaly has become the state of existence in specialization; the critical point of transition becomes the TE. He is the master to sell or convert to one format or the other with equal plum. This position does not grow on trees. The Birds want a TE to stretch the field with speed and block like an OL. Maybe the better possibility is to convert tweener like a speedy DE with hands. He must only catch the ball as far as he can go in 3 seconds. To me the key is TE. Anybody can run through a hole...well most can.

peteieke--new coach in cleveland, they need to rebuid;best way is to get picks for a good player in hopes of getting picks that lead to more good players. It's more likely that browns would trade B.E to us, then the team we faced in the conf champ game giving us a signifigant upgrade at WR.

I got a feeling the EAGLES will make a move. I don't think the FO wants to sign 2 1st rd picks in the same year. with one definitely being an OL; the RB will be the later RDS. i want boldin, but would welcome edwards. what is edwards & boldins contracts look like?

Get him, the cards have not giving any word on trading boldin, the Browns have. Get Edwards big and tall widout, McNabb will turn him into the wideout we need. Why are we being picky our receiving team has drop way more pass then anybody this year. Get Edwards we need him.
