Virginia Beach police: Case closed; Vick not a suspect
Jeff McLane, Inquirer Staff Writer
Virginia Beach police issued a statement updating their investigation into the shooting that injured a man outside a nightclub that was hosting Michael Vick's 30th birthday party.
The police have indentified the shooter, but cannot charge the suspect because the victim and various witnesses have been uncoopertive. The statement went on to say that there are no other suspects, including Vick.
The Eagles quarterback released a statement last week claiming his innocence in the shooting that maimed a codefendant in his dogfighting case. The Eagles have been conducting their own fact-finding search and have yet to find any information that would lead them to believe Vick was involved.
The team, therefore, isn't expected to release its backup quarterback, despite cries from some fans and media for the Eagles to cut ties with Vick.
Here's the Virginia Beach police statement in its entirity, released by spokesman Adam Bernstein:
"Investigators were able to determine the identity of the shooter. Unfortunately because of the lack of cooperation from the victim, coupled with the reluctance of witnesses, the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, upon reviewing all of the evidence, has determined that no charges will be filed in this case at this time. Because the suspect will not be charged, his identity cannot be released by police. There are no other suspects in this case, including Michael Vick."
- So does the victim get bonus rep or cred or whatever because he didn't snitch? I don't get thug culture, someone needs to explain it to me. Hamlin
Leave Vick alone! He had nothing to do with it. If other people get into a conflict at his event that's their problem not his. The media went on a witch hunt to tear him down. Helter Shelter... soulman386

Maybe it was Marvin Harrison... He seems a likely candidate as he has done this before.. manly
Not surprising. But does it answer the question of a probation violation on Vick's part? tacklinjoe
Does that also mean that he didn't violate his probation? beegal99
Vick will be the starter by week 6. Sorry guys. All that Hate for nothing. XmarksTheSpot

This one is for all of you clowns that have have nothing better to do than to hate on Michael Vick 24/7. However, the Beagles' still need a REAL QB!!! lalaw9833- hamlin -- i think he doesnt want to snitch because A)he might want to kill, or get the shooter killed. B) Because the shooter might have some type of evidence on the phillips guy. C) he's just plain stupid. D)he doesnt want to appear to be a snitch. i personally think its a combo of a thru d.
Vick is scum. The Eagles are a disgrace. Ferrell31
It's so funny how with black culture you're a "hater" if you have standards for yourself and others. Is this what our society is coming to? chrissmith
YES! Leave him be. sheek2109

If he did not tell the truth to the police on his original statement (3 minutes vs. 30 minutes), they should still cut him. Phront_Runner

I would trade Vick for a tractor.... LAEagles
For all the people on their knees for Vick, actually read the police statement. This was a typical thug crime scene. The victim will not talk to the cops. The suspect will not talk. And NONE of the dozens of witnesses will talk. The "no snitchin" code has worked so well for blacks...er....what's the black on black murder count in Philly again? I guess it's just natural selection. The idiots die out. chrissmith
I couldn't care less if people leave him alone or not, just let him play and earn his money. SickofPhilly

Vick needs Tony Dungy to explain to him that he does not belong in a nightclub while on probation. How hard it is to get paid millions to stay out of trouble and throw a football once in awhile? mac609
Vick Sucks. Big Ragu
@chris...it's not black culture it's hip hop culture which includes far more than black people...and "hater" means exactly what it sounds like...nothing more nothing less! If you hate Vick because he makes dumb decisions you're a "hater" regardless of whether or not you have a good reason...You hate tastycakes then you're a Tastycake "HATER"...use your brain!!!! ite483
Another case of black on black crime goes unpunished because of the no snitchin policy in black america!!! fly4philly
The system still works! Grease the right palms and you can get away with attempted murder. . . But seriously, I wonder if he had tried to kill someone if these same animal-loving clowns would protest? Phils_World_Champs
Why is it "thug culture" Hamlin? Simply because the victim is reluctant to testify? Charlie Sheen's wife was reluctant to testify; Roman Polanski's victim was reluctant to testify; Ben Roethlisberger's victim was reluctant to testify? Why aren't those cases referred to as thug culture Hamlin? Maceo
Comment removed.- Maceo -- some (white)people have this misconception that its only blacks who dont snitch. hello people!! the mafia made all of south philly snitch free back in the day. and the biggest player in the dont snitch is the CATHOLIC CHURCH! exactly.

The doggies didn't snitch on Vick and he still did time! lmao O Wellop...The TRUTH always comes to the LIGHT!...This is all Nonsense anyway...Mike Vick will be the starter QB of your favorite football team this fall! Rata-tat-tat POW! BooDuhBud
Vick must go. We need to release him and sign a veteran backup. Kolb will be a bust, so get Donte Culpepper on the team. He will be taking over for Kolb. josh moneyman
I thought Vick was NOT to be frequenting the Hampton club nor any other area considered to be "off limits." Wonder what Jeff Lurie is going to say about this. And Roger Goddell? I smell a rat, how about you? walt1
Comment removed.- Mr Vick courageously fought his way through this difficulty. Character and intelligence prevailed. He has this year's Ed Block award sewed up again.
Vick won't be playing this year. He violated his terms of reinstatement/probation with the NFL by hanging out with Phillips. PhillyfanstuckinVa
Comment removed.- Yes cut Kolb now. After his arrest yesterday, Jamarcus Russell now qualifies to be an Eagle...sign him. Also, now that all is good with Vick extend his contract through 2020 before the mad rush by other teams to trade for him. Then, let Jamarcus and Mike fight it out for the starting QB job. Important: Have Andy remind them to fight it out without guns.
Get a grip, if you are on your knees praying that Vick has violated his parole or probation, I can assure you, that you will be on your needs for the duration, he violated neither. Before you attempt to say a person has violated due to association, you really need to educate yourself on exactly what that term means, being in the same room with another felon doesn't justify association, and a long way from it. So pray on haters pray on. charmaine
Too bad Bigots!!! One day you will realize that this isn't 1810! It's 2010! So when you internet Nazi's start with your hate, you will realize that everyone is not as lost as you. There is still a legal process. You just can't string someone up......So go back to your jobs and be nice to black folks....come back and be Nazi tomorrow. There sure to be more rich black folks to hate by then. RSM man
biggest blunder in eagles history (Besides stealing T.O. out from under Baltimore back then, & keeping BOZO THE CLOWN 4-5 years longer then his usefulness) would be to have Vick report to training camp next month! jwatson

It is just a matter of time before Vick will do something else moronic and stupid. It is 6 to 5 of pick'em that he commits a felony before the season begins. NickFotiu4HOF

Folks, let's take a test. Your employer will pay you $3 million if you keep out of trouble. So you go to a party outside your house and some guy gets shot. Oh, it's not my fault. Is that sensible? I think not, stay home; out of trouble. Vick needs to go asap for sheer stupidity. streak1- He still sucks as a football player AND a human being
Case is closed - time to move on. Vick has served his time for his crimes, he needs to rebuild his life and exercise good judgment. I understand why some will never accept him or give him any benefit of the doubt, but remember the next time people jump to conclusions and it's against you - not Vick. Enough said. Eagle Weiner

Vick isn't out of the woods yet. The party-circuit business is what got him to VA Beach. NFL commish will likely have something to say. Marcus Vick claims Quanis spent a couple hours at the party before getting tossed out. That is pushing the no association with former dog fighting pals covenant with parole office. Fat Lady hasn't sung it all yet. Smashmouth

Is Billy "White Shoes" Johnson back to his career as Vick's fixer? It really says a lot for a guy that he can keep a man employed full-time cleaning up all the mess he creates wherever he goes. jtj10
Virginia may not try Vick (or anyone else) but I would be surprised if Goodell did not suspend Vick for 6-plus games under the Personal Conduct Policy. I would also be disappointed if the Eagles do not support that decision, and/or release Vick. For those who are defending Vick with all their might - and every insinuation - I would ask you to look past the stupid, racist comments, and look at a real argument. We know that Vick attended a birthday party in his honor at a club that was open to the public -- at $50 per head. For some reason, this party was attended by Quanis Phillips(apparently, he was there for at least an hour or two and may have gotten into some kind of dispute with MV). Vick is seen by surveillance cameras as leaving the club shortly after closing (2:07 am) and within three minutes, Phillips is shot. Does it take a "hater" - given MV's track record of heinous crimes and lying - to be suspicious? Is it a stretch for a reasonable person with no agenda against MV to say that at best he used poor judgment, and at worst, may have had a deeper involvement? Is it irrational to be sickened by these incidents -- whether perpetrated by blacks, whites, Latinos or Asians - and want there to be some substance behind Goodell's personal conduct policy? Am I a racist when -- regardless of the time he served - I don't want MV to represent my football franchise, based on the sickening nature of the crimes he committed, and now, I may not want him on my team, even if he did not do, or order a shooting? Please: racism on any level (especially when directed against minorities)sickens me to the core. There are idiot posters who will use that card. But, everyone should just look at the facts (or circumstances) presented to us and try to present an intelligent argument - one way or another - without all the insults. MG44
Dear Eagles- as a season ticket holder, please cut ties with the dog-killer. Besides being a herpes infested idiot, he is a terrible QB and waste of roster/cap space. ty JWB109
