Vince Young to land tomorrow

POSTED: Friday, July 29, 2011, 11:17 AM

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- As Kevin Kolb touches down in Arizona, the Eagles' newest backup quarterback will be flying here tomorrow and checking into training camp at Lehigh University.

The Vince Young deal is done, NFL sources confirmed. The Eagles just need to announce it today at 6 p.m. It took the team a little less than half a day to address their backup quarterback need after dealing Kolb to Arizona.

Young is probably the best available quarterback willing to be a backup on the market. It's fair to assume that he agreed to a one-year deal in the hopes of becoming coach Andy Reid and offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg's latest reclamation project.

The last project was asked about Young coming to the Eagles.

"It's going to be a positive affect," Michael Vick said. "I think Vince will mature as a player and get better, as far as understanding what this offense is about. I think it will help him long-term. ... And if we ever need him he's there for us."

Young has had some ups and downs to his career, but he has a 30-17 career mark as a starter for Tennessee.

"I think Vince has done well," Vick said. "He's just had some tough breaks, but you see a lot of guys in this league that have some inconsistencies in their career and they're able to change it down the stretch of their career."

The 28-year-old Young had some issues whenever he was booed by Titans fans.

"We all have a problem with booing," Vick said. "We all hate getting booed."

Another "Low Character" guy ....Andy Reid should also sign Plaxico Burress, he will fit in perfectly with low character Vick and Young.

It's a shame how the Eagles are becoming one of the most dispised teams in football.

Similar to the Vick situation. He can sit back and not be in the spotlight while getting some of the best QB instruction in the league. If his character is still an issue the birds won't tolerate it. I think this at least keeps the birds as a solid machine on offense. We'll see.

He and Vick are different issues. Obviously Vick was a great talent with out the ability to make good choices off the field. His flaw was an inability to avoid trouble while with friends and his lack of ability to make good decisions in general outside of the structure of the coaches keeping him in line (I do not think that this was an active role, but a product of the system).

Young, OTOH, has been outright lazy at times and other times disengaged in his profession. That is a little scary, but the Eagles will sort that out pretty quickly I suspect before he starts his stint with a clipboard.

Funny enough, I did not even process that he is black until I saw some of the hubbub. I do wonder if Cunningham, Peete, McNabb Vick and Young if there is some unofficial stat for the most NFL games started by African-American quarterbacks. Philly has come a long way since it was billed as the farthest north, southern city in America.

sounds like thephan needs an education. And exactly where can you direct us that Philly was "billed" of as a "southern (aka racist) city". I would be interested in that "well documented website". Well ? Nothing like being a dope! Oh yeah. And saying you did not process that Young was black is about as laughable as it gets. Especially in light of your "study of black QB's in Philly and in your in-depth study of Philadelphia's Society in general" LMAO@ a true bozo. you sure can talk some trash.

I like what the Eagles are doing.

If they get a stud defensive tackle, and dare I say a linebacker, they will be serious contenders.

I'm amazed a the number of folks who want Jeff Fisher to skate free and clear of any of the blame. So here are the facts: Over the past 2 seasons , when VY had started, the Titans were 12-6; 8-2 in '09 and 4-4 last year. The Titans went 8-8 in '09; and 6-10 last year. Thats 14-18; so they went 2-12 when VY didn't start. I'm glad Fisher had such a great relationship with Kerry Collins and Rusty Smith because they got him fired; not VY.

Heres another guy the eagles will make look GREAT in two games and end up trading for a first round pick in the offseason. This team rules at bring in value. I love this move. And for the guy who said the Eagles bring in "another low character guy" its funny how they bring these types in and then when they leave they tend to be HIGH character guys.

Oh and one more thing stop with the linebacker thing. The Eagles DO NOT need a linebacker. If they add a vet thats great but they don't have too. Casey Mathews will be DROY and consider the steal of the draft. As it is starting to look like Cheney was last year. Now if they wanted to bring in a guy as a early starter or back up as vet to help learn the youngins i am cool with that but i'd much rather they spend money at the DT.

They need to cut Bunkley and sign Membane (spelling?) from Seattle and I would like to see Tommie Harris come in as well if he hasn't signed elsewhere. Those two players in the rotation with Peterson and Dixon in Washburns wider system would rule the nfl with Cole, Babin, Parker, Sapp, and later on Graham (who i still believe is going to be a pretty good player if he can get healthy again) But they do need a DT upgrade and he dude from seattle would be my first choice but i also think T harris can be made to be great agian by washburn. Another name is tony brown who played for Washburn in Tenn.

Big_Omar, you don't know what you're talking about. Young was a one hit wonder in college when he accidently beat USC, and a total bust in Tennessee. What have the Eagles become, a division of the probation department and the psych ward. Now let's sign Plaxaco; three kngs! And who gives a damn that football is back. They could have stayed out forever. Let these over paid bums work for a living like the rest of us.
