Vick: reaction to McNabb should be positive

POSTED: Tuesday, September 28, 2010, 2:18 PM

Michael Vick got a raucous ovation at Imhotep Charter School as he spoke to the students about the dangers of, as he put it, losing focus on his life long goals and the legacy he hopes to leave for himself. Afterward, he said he hopes Donovan McNabb gets a "positive" reaction from fans Sunday.

Vick was speaking at the West Oak Lane school as part of his agreement with the Humane Society of the United States to take part in presentations meant to discourage dog fighting. Standing in front of an "End Dogfighting" banner, he urged the high school students to stay focused on their goals and not stray into destructive behavior. A recap of the event is here.

After speaking, Vick talked to reporters mostly about his work with the Humane Society, but was also asked about how fans might react to McNabb.

"Don gave a lot to the city of Philadelphia, he dedicated himself, not only on the field, but out in the community. It was known and I think everybody is conscious of that and I think it should be a positive reaction. It will be a positive reaction," Vick said.

The game might be a highlight of the schedule for fans, but Vick said he is treating it like any other.

"For me it's just another game, and I’m pretty sure Donovan feels the same way," he said. "We both know what’s at stake, and ultimately at the end of the day you want to win a game. The hype of me playing against him is not going to change anything. It's not going to help us out there on the field."

McNabb is anything but 'despicable' - cut me some slack. hey @eaglephantic why don't you grow a pair and tell McNabb to his face what you think of him and why. Somehow I don't see that happening.

It would be classless and moronic for true Philly fans to boo McNabb when he runs out on the field. You don't have to like him and we can debate the merits of the trade to DC, but if you have half a brain, you have to respect his place in Eagles history.

I think the guy showed a lot of class considering what he endured. Did he fail during the playoffs? Yes and no. Maybe you boo-Birds would rather have a Tony Romo with all that he's accomplished. He may end his career with better stats than Donnie Mac but I doubt he comes close to 5 NFC title games.

"McNabb will be booed because he is a despicable man" Wow, how ignorant can you get. You may not like McNabb's game but to call him despicable is way out of line. He is a good man and this is another example of why so many top athletes don't want to come here.

Mcnabb gave to the city? I dont know about that statement. I know he got paid over $100,000,000.00 to throw a football for a company. Fans owe nothing to him. He should be gracious, yet he was arogant and sloppy. Even Reid had enough, probably capped off by his air guitar performance.

mcnabb raised 2.5 million dollars through his foundation for a new diabetes center at a new jersey hospital last year, i don't recall allen iverson ever doing anything like that and correct me if I am wrong but did the phillies make the playoffs even one year that thome played here?

brmorgen81 says you're allowed to have an opinion and to express it. Of course you are. But the expression of some opinions is tasteless. Maybe his mother never taught him that. To his ignorance of football (McNabb has been the best Eagles qb in the last thirty years), brmorgen81 adds a loud and uncontrolled mouth.

Of course we should hate McNabb. He said horrible things like, "We showed our youth"; "The defense gave up points", "We have to do a better job". My, my what horrible, horrible things he's said. And winning a lot of games but not a Super Bowl! Criminal! Low life! We should boo McNabb, and cheer a guy who never won ANYTHING, who KILLED DOGS, and RAN A GAMBLING RING! Morons!
