Vick: reaction to McNabb should be positive

POSTED: Tuesday, September 28, 2010, 2:18 PM

Michael Vick got a raucous ovation at Imhotep Charter School as he spoke to the students about the dangers of, as he put it, losing focus on his life long goals and the legacy he hopes to leave for himself. Afterward, he said he hopes Donovan McNabb gets a "positive" reaction from fans Sunday.

Vick was speaking at the West Oak Lane school as part of his agreement with the Humane Society of the United States to take part in presentations meant to discourage dog fighting. Standing in front of an "End Dogfighting" banner, he urged the high school students to stay focused on their goals and not stray into destructive behavior. A recap of the event is here.

After speaking, Vick talked to reporters mostly about his work with the Humane Society, but was also asked about how fans might react to McNabb.

"Don gave a lot to the city of Philadelphia, he dedicated himself, not only on the field, but out in the community. It was known and I think everybody is conscious of that and I think it should be a positive reaction. It will be a positive reaction," Vick said.

The game might be a highlight of the schedule for fans, but Vick said he is treating it like any other.

"For me it's just another game, and I’m pretty sure Donovan feels the same way," he said. "We both know what’s at stake, and ultimately at the end of the day you want to win a game. The hype of me playing against him is not going to change anything. It's not going to help us out there on the field."

McNabb....11 years....5 NFC Championship games...1 Superbowl Appearance...and 7 playoff appearances....b4 that....nothing but beatdowns from Dallas....I'ma give a standing ovation for one of the Best in EAGLES QB history....I want the game to be a shoot out for both teams and come down to a field goal...wouldn't mind seeing 1000 yards of offense in one game by both teams!!!! That would be one for the ages!!!

Anybody who is old enough to remember the years of Peete, Hoying, both Detmers, Brister, Jay Fiedler, etc. knows how important McNabb was to turning this franchise around. McNabb should get loud applause.

I remember back in 1999 I wanted the Eagles to draft Ricky Williams. I was completely wrong. Totally wrong. But at least I admit it. McNabb and Reid transformed this franchise into a viable SB contender for most of the last decade. As much as I disagree with Reid about the pass-happy offense, I can't deny what the guy has done here. Much of that wouldn't have been possible with a lesser QB.

If this city boos mcnabb, the people are even more insecure here than I thought. Lol all the hate and rage toward others is only because you hate yourself and your crappy underacheiving self. Hate to be all psychological, but you know it's true. You're just looking for a place to direct your rage. Mcnabb wasn't the best ever, but certainly the best negadelphia ever had.

i'm almost looking forward to getting this game over with. these comment sections have become toxic with pure ignorance and hatred against mcnabb. we get it, he didn't win a superbowl (which makes him no worse than any player to ever wear an eagles jersey), he smiles on the sideline, he throws the occasional ball into the ground, and worst of all, he once played the air guitar. let it go people.

How pathetic that this guy gets an audience with school kids solely because he can run with and throw a football.

boru, he has an audience with these kids because it is part of his community service requirement. Believe me, if he didn't have to be there he wouldn't.

I love it. Someone asks it's disrespectful. It's always disrespectful to boo; isn't that the nature of the gesture. A derisive cheer emitted from the gut to express displeasure and disrespect. Usually says more about the boo-er than the boo-ee, primarily an athlete trying his best, but coming up short in the eyes of a fan whose life is less than stellar. Says more about inner city psyche than anything salient about the boo-ee. McNabb was the leader of a very successful offense through most of the decade, and deserves a respectful applause. Heck, tactically we should give him a rousing ovation. The players that get booed usually come back to haunt the home team. Sucker him into complacence. Give him a quiet "eagle eye," create a force field to mess up his long passes and conjure the short ones into the turf. Go Eagles. Be nice fans, the whole world is watching. Like that matters.

The guy should not get booed when he comes out on the field...unfortunately this is Philly, where the losers roam, and the unintelligent speak above everyone else. The nation will once again label us as fools...luckily people like eaglephanatic and Ashburn072 will be too busy working at McDonald's during the day that they can't attend.
