Vick out with rib/chest injury

POSTED: Sunday, October 3, 2010, 6:01 PM

Enough to talk about in the first half?

Michael Vick left the game with a rib/chest injury and wil not return, the team announced.

Donovan McNabb, meanwhile, was well received by the fans, and great on the field – six for eight, 115 yards, a touchdown and a great 57-yard deep throw to set up a field goal. His passer rating was 156.2.

When Vick got hurt the fortunes of the Eagles quarterbacks reversed. Kevin Kolb got his second chance, and despite a shaky start – an early dropped snap and batted ball – drove the Eagles downfield. He owed LeSean McCoy a big thanks. The running back carried the drive at the end of the half.

Oh, and then the Eagles added a delay of game – off of a time out -- just when they were lining up for a fourth down play to try to cut the lead to 17-10. They settled for a field goal instead and took a 17-6 lead into the half.

Kolb was six for eight for 66 yards. Vick was getting his ribs X-rayed and his return is questionable.

And Eagles fans did indeed boo – their own team’s defense and clock management.

Other observations:

-- Jason Peters is back. A holding penalty negated a first down.

-- LeSean McCoy was big. Ran for 26 yards, 72 yards receiving.

-- The Redskins came out hitting. Ryan Torain destroyed Quintin Mikell on his touchdown run. On the ensuing kick off Jorrick Calvin got rocked.

-- McNabb threw a great pass to tight end Chris Cooley for another score. Stewart Bradley was beat on the play.

-- The Redskins are averaging 4.5 yards per run.

-- Not much pressure on McNabb, though Darryl Tapp had a good stop to prevent the quarterback for scrambling on a third down deep in Eagles territory. The Redskins settled for a field goal.

-- McNabb was warmly received. Applause drowned out the small smattering of boos.

-- Wide receiver Riley Cooper is out for the game with a concussion. That leaves just three receivers for the Eagles.

-- Rookie Kurt Coleman was the last man back on dime coverage, but was nowhere near receiver Anthony Armstrong. The result: a 57-yard pass play that set up a Redskins field goal.

We'll lose every game Kolb starts. He's unimagineably horrible. How did they ever think of him as a starting QB?

Let's hope Vick is back soon as the Eagles have no chance with Kolb running the team.

hopefully this shut's up all the kolb supporter who whined about only having 2 quarters. I think we all see why andy made the switch. kolb will never be a #1 in this league.

Jame- FYI if it were Karma he would have had the equal effect of being tied to a tree and electrocuted.

Get well fast, Michael. Its going to be a long season if we have to watch Kolb play QB. Today's game justifies Andy's decision to make Vick the starter.

Well, when you draft O-line failures year after year, make horrendous free-agent decisions, and force what linemen you have left to play different positions than they have for their entire careers, you get an offensive line that truly is: offensive. ANDY THE LAND WHALE MUST GO!
