Shawn Andrews in LA to see back specialist
Jeff McLane, Inquirer Staff Writer
Shawn Andrews is currently in Los Angeles to see Dr. Robert Watkins, the back specialist who performed surgery on the tackle last October, the team said this afternoon.
Andrews hasn't played in all of camp after he aggravated the back during a conditioning run on the first day of practice. He said on Saturday that he had no idea when he would be back.
"I’m just taking it half-a-day increments," Andrews said. "I’m doing everything with [trainer] Rick [Burkholder] and the guys. I’m doing extra stuff on my own. I’ve even taken up yoga and acupuncture. I’m exhausting all means to get back on the field. Whenever it happens, and Lord willing it’s soon, I’m going to go back and kick some butt."
The Eagles offensive line has resembled a MASH unit. Tackle Jason Peters missed practice today with a quadriceps strain. Guard Todd Herremans is still out with a foot stress reaction. And guard Stacy Andrews is still slowly being eased in a full return. Only center Jamaal Jackson has stayed healthy.

Brian Westbrook made a full return to practice today, taking part in every facet in what some of the players were calling the toughest practice of the preseason. The running back had been participating in individual and installation drills over the previous two days, but was running with the first team during contained live hitting today.
Westbrook, who had off-season ankle sugery, will hold a press conference tomorrow for the first time since the end of last season.
Vick, meanwhile, had his most involved practice since joining the team on Saturday. Through most of the first half of practice, Adam DiMichele took most of the reps with the third team. By the second half, however, Vick was under center for the majority of time. He looked poised, threw a few good passes, but did nothing spectacular. Still no sign of the Wildcat, however.
Vick worked out after practice with several coaches, including Marty Mornhinweg.
Other notes and observations:
-- Tight end Brent Celek (AC shoulder sprain) was back for individual drills. He and defensive end Trent Cole (same injury) worked out with the training staff as team drills were conducted.
-- Quarterback Kevin Kolb (MCL sprain) was in for a few installs, but that was it for the backup. Cornerback Sheldon Brown (ribs) was also missing.
-- Linebacker Omar Gaither was also not at practice with what the team is calling a knee sprain.
Brian Burplacher and the rest of the Bears better find a Qb first tommy_the_k
We should have traded Shawn Andrews when we had the chance. His mind and his body aren't in it. farside37- Runyan.
choi - you are out of it, your faith is misguided. When you say NFL defenses will be his instrument, do you mean all nfl defenses? What will they be accomplishing? What's the point? Maybe there is none. 46 and 2

If the Eagles' o-line doesn't have at least one pre-season game together, I really fear for this season. This is practically a brand new line, and the only uninjured starter is Jackson. I've had a bad feeling about Shawn Andrews ever since he reinjured his back, and this latest update just makes me think he won't play again. Call me gloomy, but I think at this point it's warranted. The o-line is the #1 issue with the Eagles right now, easily. p-diddy
The scary thing is that I don't think the Eagles could get much for Shawn Andrews right now in a trade. He missed last year's camp, then missed almost the regular season due to his bad back, now he's missed the entire camp because he reinjured his back. The man can't run yet, how can anybody think he's close to playing football? I'm not questioning his desire, but it's really starting to look like his career is in question. p-diddy
