Vick: Giants 'didn't show great sportsmanship'
Jeff McLane and Jonathan Tamari
Yes, it was a devastating loss, but a number of Giants players simply walked off the New Meadowlands turf after DeSean Jackson's game-winning punt return touchdown before shaking hands with the Eagles, according to several players.
"I just thought for them to walk off the field at the end really didn’t show great sportsmanship," Eagles quarterback Michael Vick said. "We still have the utmost respect for those guys. Those were the ones doing a lot talking.”
Asked to give a comment about what the Giants players were saying to the Eagles during the game, center Mike McGlynn said, "You don't want to hear what I have to say."
The implication was that what he had to say wasn't going to be flattering. The Eagles' remarkable 38-31 comeback win over the Giants gives them six straight over New York. A rematch in the playoffs is not out of the question.
Here are some other noteworthy quotes from after the game:
ASANTE SAMUEL ON PUNTING TO JACKSON:
"Oh my God, that was crazy. Wasn't it? I don't know what's going to happen to [Giants punter Matt Dodge], but I'm sure Tom Coughlin is pretty upset."
JACKSON ON HIS EARLY FRUSTRATIONS:
"All game they was on me, they double teamed me, did this and did that, and Vick kind of seen I was frustrated. It was tough, man, especially going out there and the competitior I am. When they focus on me so hard and I want to do so great and sometimes it’s other defenses aren’t going to allow that and Vick kept telling me, 'Man, come on, man, keep your head up, you’re going to get one, you’re going to get one.' And we kept plugging away and we got one."
VICK ON COMEBACK:
"We were discouraged in the first half that we didn't make the most of our opportunities to put the ball in the end zone. We had some turnovers. And we just said to ourselves, 'Listen, we're just going to go out there and play for pride above anything else. They may beat us, 49-25, but we're going to play with pride and we can't complain.' And that's all I want to ask of my teammates, and my offensive line, to play with some pride and enjoy the game."
JASON AVANT ON JEREMY MACLIN'S DOWNFIELD BLOCKING:
"Maclin does an outstanding job. Best that I’ve seen since I’ve been here."
AVANT ON EAGLES ONSIDE KICK:
"I couldn’t believe that they let us get it, though. I definitely didn’t think that was going to work."
BOBBY APRIL ON DESEAN'S PUNT RETURN:
"DeSean, when he gets in space, you know what happens."
QUINTIN MIKELL ON IMPACT OF ONSIDE KICK:
"When we got that, you kind of see their sideline, they kind of started to tense up. Naturally you tend to be like 'Oh crap, what’s going to happen?' On our sidelines we said, 'We’re going to get this thing, We’re going to go get it.' And that’s what we did."
DAVID AKERS ON VICTORY:
"Greatest game in Eagles history that I've been a part of, by far."
GIANTS RUNNING BACK BRANDON JACOBS:
"I've never been through anything worse than this one. That's the way the marbles roll."
DODGE ON WHETHER TOM COUGHLIN TOLD HIM TO PUNT OUT OF BOUNDS:
"I think everyone on the sideline did. And I knew it. He didn't have to tell me. It wasn't rocket science not to kick it to him with 12 seconds left, but sometimes you don't execute as well as you'd like."
Vick is and always will be a piece of trash to me. I could care less where he leads the Eagles. I bet very few Eagles fans would feel so loving towards Dogslayer if he played for another NFL team, especially if it were an NFC East rival. The_Unknown-Poster
Hey if he has to kill a few dogs before every game and the Eagles win, I'm on board..... it's a stupid dog.... not a person...... kramer65
Comment removed.- I'll stand up -- but, AR made the right choice to play Vick over KK. MV is playing MUCH better than he ever showed before in his career -- I think he should have the lead for MVP after what he did in the 4th Q yesterday. I guess AR is also a front-runner...
It's nice to know that if MV gets splattered some week (and I will not be a bit surprised if it happens) that the Birds have a very capable backup. This week's events in DC proved once again AR knows QBs. My guess is AR would not have done what he did last year unless he knew KK to be a very good QB. The guy has some records of his own, you know...
Since we're talking about Vick, I have a hard time rooting for him. Hurting a dog is like hurting a child. He picked on a defenseless creature that couldn't defend itself. I hope the team does well but I'm not buying the Vick comeback story. There's something wrong with a person who harms a defenseless person or animal. I don't know if a person like that can be rehabilitated or can turn off the barbaric tendencies. - I believe he's changed. His actions seem to indicate he has learned and moved on.

I can't say I blame the Giants for leaving the field, a defeat like that is tough to absorb. The defense and special teams gave the game away to the Eagles. The comments I read were all respectable. It is a great rivalry, but lets not make the Giants out to be the evil empire, (we all know that is in Dallas). willbert31
Giants' fans are so classy. You'd think they'd be able to handle this loss with dignity and grace. They've had enough practice. Let's face it. Everyone in Philly knows our city is better than NYC. NYC would be a great place to live if it wasn't full of NYers. NYC is living off of its past. Philly is all about now and beating the Giants, winning the World Series and bringing the cup back to the greatest hockey city on the planet. Sports dominate american culture and Philly rules! MikeP
@ JP, we sure are going to miss you......not.Great game, this is the stuff that champions are made of never quiting and just making it happen. DOSTER

To JPCase; Just wondering, do you post the same comment if the Eagles had lost the game? Lesj
JPCase: You are a sad excuse for a human. The guy admitted & paid for his sin. What do you do that qualifies you to be the first stone thrower? You should be on your knees praying for an opportunity to be forgiven for your sins, you know, the ones you commit where nobody can see. On second thought, get off your knees. jjthree
