Vick/Maclin officially out for Giants game

POSTED: Saturday, November 19, 2011, 2:32 PM

As expected, Michael Vick and Jeremy Maclin will not play when the Eagles face the New York Giants in Sunday night’s must-win game.

Both were downgraded from questionable to out by the team and neither made the trip to North Jersey with the rest of the Eagles on Saturday.

Vince Young will fill in for Vick, who has two broken ribs, and will make his first career start for the Eagles. Riley Cooper is expected to start in place of Maclin, who has shoulder and hamstring injuries, at wide receiver.

Vick broke his ribs last week against the Cardinals, and along with Maclin, did not practice the entire week. Eagles coach Andy Reid said Friday that he felt comfortable starting both players even if without the benefit of practice, but as long as they were healthy.

Still, it was rather clear as of Thursday that neither Vick nor Maclin would be ready in time. Young took all the snaps with the first team offense all week and will start under center for the first time in exactly a year.

Before coming to the Eagles he started in 47 career regular season games for the Tennessee Titans and won 30 of them. Young has a 2-0 record against the Giants including a 29-10 victory at the Meadowlands last September.

Mike Kafka will back up Young.

The Eagles’ season is on the line Sunday night. At 3-6 and three games behind the NFC East-leading Giants, the Eagles need a win to keep their already slim playoff hopes alive.

Now we will see if it's the defense of Vick that is losing the game.

This will be a nice way yo compare QBs and see how much of Vicks sacks and interceptions are his own fault.

I don't care what the Cowboys or the media are reporting, but there is no way Tony Romo is running around on that field with a punctured or collapsed lung (that varies from day to day depending on who you're talking to) and a broken ribs.

At least the 4th quarter shouldn't be a total disaster.

Let's face it.....either the owner of the team is just crazy or Andy is running the biggest con game there ever was....Would you keep an employee who was not doing the job he is getting paid for? AR has passed his prime....and should be put out to pasture!

Ronnie Brown is the best QB on this team. Start him.
