Vick in Madden cover final
Jeff McLane, Inquirer Staff Writer
It's Michael Vick vs. Peyton Hillis in the final of the Madden 12 cover competition.
Yes, really.
It's the Eagles quarterback and ex-dogfighting impresario against the Browns running back no one outside Cleveland has heard of.
I think it's fair to say Vick will be crowned in nine days -- voting on ESPN.com ends on April 27 -- and will become the first player to grace the Madden cover for the second time.
Vick ousted Vikings running back Adrian Peterson in the semifinals, while Hillis beat out Packers quarterback and Super Bowl MVP Aaron Rodgers in the other semi.
There has already been some protest over the chances of Vick winning this otherwise innocuous competition. Now he's one nationwide vote from re-energizing both sides of the debate over the lightning rod quarterback. It'll be interesting to see which side can influence the voting more.
Stay tuned.
UPDATE:
Thanks to the readers that reminded me of the Madden curse. Maybe the anti-Vick faction will try and reverse jinx Vick by voting for him.
Vick was on the cover of Madden 2004 and went on to break his leg in the preseason and miss the first 12 games of the season as the Falcons went 5-11. There are many other examples of the Curse, including Donovan McNabb tearing his ACL in 2006 after he was on the cover.
- thank god drew bress broke the madden "jinx".
I hope Vick gets the cover, the jinx that goes with it, and than gets eaten by a shark for what he did. Dr. Michael
"eaten by a shark"??...............LMAO...poor "Dr.Michael" - so bitter...so sad. LMAO cancer36
Wouldn't be so quick to give Vick the cover. Somehow Hillis beat out Rodgers (you know, this year's Super Bowl MVP) easily, so anything is possible. jasvic
I implore all Eagles Fans and Vick Fans to vote for him on the cover this year! It would be great for him to do it twice, and to have another Eagle on the cover. If not for Vick, then do it for the Eagles!. DonovanMcNabb
Vick was already on the cover in 2004 and broke his leg in the preseason cuso20
this should stir up the fan base.... does it really matter? M60tanker
So let me get this straight, Vick beats out a guy who actually beat him in the real world and then went on to be the superbowl MVP!! what a joke! Kolb just may get that starting job after all! Geno D
Might as well trade him now, the Madden curse will get him. Drew Brees broke the curse??! he had most interceptions of his career and was ousted in the playoffs by the 7-9 Seahawks. Sounds broken..right crohnkiller
The curse is dumb, they only tell you about the guys that get hurt. Theres no streak, Brett Favre: Didn't miss games. Troy P. and Fitzgerald: Both basically played all year. And Drew Brees: No games missed...Thats just 3 off the top of the brain. Its bogus. So is the fact that Vick or Hillis will cover madden. Rodgers should be on the cover. Bottomline. silrock27- Brett Favre separated his shoulder. He didn't miss games, but he was awful the second half of the season with the Jets. Polamalu hurt his knee and was out awhile. Fitz didn't het hurt, but he did have a poor season. 0 for 3...

Comment removed.- Doesn't make any sense at all.

The lilly white adolescent boys who live the sheltered suburban teacher-pet life style who see Vick as dangerous exciting ex-con thug, something they can never ever be, all vote for Vick along with loafer and cardigan wearing jock sniffing wannabe media types. bill19666
"Anti Vick Crowd?" Was the whole sports department asleep when the Eagls crashed and burned and looked worse that the Detroit Lions at the end of last season? For Eagles fans its, "Win or get out of town." They didn't win. They were awful with Vick in there. Tell you what guys, I'll let you have ten excuses why the Eagles and Vick didn't win. It seems to be all you and Joe "the Eagles had a better run than the Steelers" need. Me? I need a superbowl winner. marioP
