Vick gets ovation

POSTED: Thursday, August 27, 2009, 7:28 PM

Michael Vick was given a standing ovation from many at the less-than-half-full Lincoln Financial Field tonight.

The Eagles' new quarterback checked in on the team's second play from scrimmage. As Vick trotted out on the field, a large portion of the crowd rose to their feet to cheer on the disgraced former Atlanta Falcons player. If there were boos, they were drowned out by the majority who appeared to be in favor of the controversial move.

Vick lined up behind center in the shotgun on second down, with McNabb split wide right. He flipped a shovel pass to running back LeSean McCoy, who picked up four yards. Vick then departed before the Eagles' drive stalled.

On the Eagles' second possession, Vick entered again on the second play of the drive. This time, the "Wildcat" took the snap, faked a handoff, and rolled out left to run. Vick managed only one yard. He was inserted later in the drive and was split as a wideout. Quarterback Donovan McNabb faked a throw to Vick, but instead handed off the McCoy.

Vick had his first throw several downs later when he zipped a 14-yard completion to wide receiver Hank Baskett for a first down that moved the Eagles down to the Jaguars' 13-yard line.

The Eagles eventually settled for a 31-yard field goal from kicker David Akers and a 3-0 lead.

season ticketholder here (I left at the half) actually my entire section was on their feet. I saw one person who had a 7 jersey with a line through it. All in all, it was as supportive as a crowd of children (entire place was kids) could be. Positive environment.

padogsrule, Include yourself. Intelligent people know he's done his time and it's over. This is a sport. Nothing more. Anyone going over the deep end on Vick are just as guilty as the thugs you claim view the sport as a religion.

Was it the hanging and electrocuting of dogs you applauded? Or maybe it was the failing of the drug test and lying to the face of the commissioner you liked. Or maybe it was just the lawsuit from his girlfriend that "Ron Mexico" gave her Herpes. Philly fans...you are the best! Let's stand up for him. What a guy... that Michael Vick!

Ticket holders against the Vick acquisition stayed away. Vick lovers, or win at any cost morons, picked some of the tickets up as they said they would - nobody that I would want in my fan club. But then I'm not Vick.

I am SO sick of the haters!! He paid the price for his crime and he has the right to play. If you do not like it,SHUT UP!! No one cares about your DUMB opinion! Which one of you can cast that first stone??? What skeletons are in your dirty closet. Leave the man alone!! Isn't is sad that another former NFL player got 2 years for raping a 15 year old girl and Vick got more time for his crime?? Yes, it was wrong, but he DID HIS TIME... Get a LIFE

Vick paid his debt to society and is free to start life all over again. True for the football celebrity and the average joe. And these animals rights people should help the hungary children in Phila. Many have not had dinner and will go without breakfast in the morning.

There's no point in arguing with faceless people over the internet. It's easy to say anything you want or throw all the insults when you don't have to do it in person. All the Philadelphia haters will find anything to use and this is just 1 more thing. I'm interested in the Philly native's opinions. The reception is not embarrassing. It is surprising but not embarrassing. The comments being made by "fans" on these forum boards are embarrassing. For a city everyone hates, people sure do go out of their way to read and comment on us for decades. I think I'll start a website citing all of the atrocities and crimes in other cities concerning sports, like the stabbing of Jets fans, the batteries thrown at players in Denver, New Orleans, NY. Beers thrown on players in Chicago. It started with 1 network killing Philly and now everyone has this bs notion. Do me a favor and stay in your own back yards.

Petethecat, Not that I have, but I wonder if you saw video of Vick and the dogs if you'd make the same comment.

The fans performed exactly as expected-cries of racism against his detractors and a standing ovation from the Troglodytes in the stands.

Vick didn't 'make a mistake'. He made a deliberate choice to torture and kill innocent animals. He has no soul and he can go straight to h&ll for all I care. So can those of you telling us to shut up.

Was the average IQ of the slobs giving Vick a standing ovation 70? I hope the Eagles have some helmets to spare. Those tards that cheered certainly need them.
