VY stands by "Dream Team" comment

POSTED: Monday, August 22, 2011, 12:55 PM

Who should be the Eagles' backup quarterback?
Vince Young
Mike Kafka
Someone else

Vince Young said that his "Dream Team" comment, which many within the media and some players and coaches from other teams have emphasized in the weeks after the Eagles went on a free agent signing spree, was taken out of context.

But the quarterback didn't exactly back away from the statement either.

"That's pretty much how it goes with Vince Young," Young said Monday at the NovaCare Complex. "My words always get taken out of context. It's just basically what I mean. We do have some really talented guys and I feel like if we continue to keep working and taking care of our responsibilities and finish like a team like we want to finish I feel like that's pretty much how I called it.

"How everybody want to take it that's how everybody is going to take it. Just how the Miami Heat was -- them guys ended up being in the NBA Finals. So it's all about getting your chemistry right, playing together and taking stepping stones to get where you want to be."

Young made the comparison to the 1992 U.S. Olympic basketball team the day after the Eagles signed the former Titans quarterback as a free agent. Eagles coach Andy Reid and the team's front office have tried their best to distance themselves from any "Dream Team" comparisons.

So did Young regret the statement?

"That's just how I feel," Young said. "I don't care what nobody else says, that's how I feel about the guys here. I have a lot of respect for each and [every] one of the guys in this locker room, as well as our coaches. That's just how I feel. You can't tell me not what to say. At the same time, that's just how I feel. If we continue to keep working as a team, as a structured unit, as coaches and everybody that's pretty much in this locker room, I really feel we can be -- if we take the days day by one day -- to get ourselves better and where we want to be at."

Young said that no one within the Eagles organization has talked to him about the comment and that he has not received any ribbing from other players and former teammates from around the NFL.

"Nobody around here really talking about it," Young said. "It's just mostly outside this locker room."

Excellent grammar and syntax VY. I guess English classes aren't a big requirement at Texas.

"That's pretty much how it go with Vince Young,"
and "I don't care what nobody else says".
Those statements say it all. Shut up and get good enough to be the back up QB.

I think most players with bad attitudes end up saying stupid stuff. Then their misplaced sense of pride keeps them from admitting a mistake. Not to mention that he VY yet to play well. We all know what he was thinking and in itself what he said wasn't really that bad. But with any kind of awareness of how the press and others could react to that statement, most players wouldn't get near a statement like that.

Showing his ignorance and his foolish bravado, he sticks by his comment...This is the kid who quit on his team....Maturity and Intelligence are necesssry traits for a QB.....Isn't that what we are hoping for from Michael......Sad to say....Vince is a long way away....and for the record , there has only ever been one Dream Team....who won by an average of 34 points and every guy an all pro.....Hello.....Grow up Vince....or keep this up and your time here will be very short....
