Two league sources have confirmed that Eagles left tackle Tra Thomas has started his free-agent tour by visiting the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Peter Schaffer, the agent for Thomas, declined to talk when reached by phone earlier today. It is not known whether Thomas is still in Jacksonville.

Thomas, the last remaining member of the Eagles with ties to the Ray Rhodes' era, has been the team's starter at left tackle since being taken first in the 1998 draft. He has missed just 10 games during his 11-year career.

The Birds are losing all the experienced players. Time to rebuild with a young team including a new QB. Check back in 3-4 years.

Alright... this will be awesome. Maybe we should get a revolving door for the left tackle position..oh yea we already have Winston Justice. Is Antone Davis available?

Great postings from the crew! Love it!! Clever. Seems the Birds are going to delete all old and high priced talent except for McNabb and Westbrook. Keep your fingers crossed on how they manage it.

I cannot believe we are letting the nucleus of a team that went to 5 NFC Championship games, losing 4 of them and coming away with 0 super bowls leave! What on earth are the Eagles thinking?

If the Eagles really want to be a Super Bowl contender, they'll re-sign Thomas. He is the best option they have at left tackle and the Birds need somebody who can pass block effectively (since they don't run the ball much). What are they saving if they don't re-sign Thomas? They are already so far under the cap that they can't spend all of their money, as Banner already said. And why rely on having to draft an unproven rookie to play left tackle? The Eagles off-season philosophy is puzzling right now.

You people are nuts! Would you like them to hang on to these players until they are 50? They are one of the top teams EVERY year, let them at least finish the offseason before you judge. Philly fans are so clueless!

Big Jon or Tra??? I'll take Jon. Hopefully he can be healthy. It's time to move on and clean some of these guys out. Just like with Trotter, Douglas and others new guys will fill in and do good jobs.
About Birds' Eye View Blog

Bob Brookover, left, is in his seventh year of covering the Philadelphia Eagles after spending 15 years covering the Philadelphia Phillies for the Inquirer and two other newspapers. The 45-year-old Brookover lives in Delran with his wife Francine and roots for Notre Dame and Michigan State, the two schools attended by his children, Justine and Ryan. When Notre Dame plays Michigan State, he cheers for the school of the child he likes more at that particular moment.

Jeff McLane, right, joined the Eagles beat in April 2009 after two years of covering colleges, namely Penn State football. Before that he covered high school sports for The Inquirer. Before that he worked in the mailroom (not quite). Informed that his father is no longer covering the Lions, McLane's eldest, three-year-old son said, "You mean Simba, Scar and Mufasa, Daddy?" His two-year-old son -- excited about the move to the Eagles -- said, "Go, Deigo, Go!" or something like that. His wife of five-plus years, however, had a different take on the new job. "Another five years is in question," she said. Check out McLane on Twitter and Facebook for instant updates on the Eagles.
