THOMAS: EAGLES HAVEN'T SHOWN ANY INTEREST; SHAWN SPRINGS VISITING BIRDS

POSTED: Tuesday, March 3, 2009, 5:01 PM

Tra Thomas left Jacksonville without a contract, but he showed zero optimism today when asked if he still thought there was a chance he'd return to the Eagles next season.

"They haven't shown any interest in bringing me back, so as hard as it is I have to move forward," Thomas said via text message. "The Eagles have always been the team I wanted to play for, but now I have to go to the team that wants me."

Thomas, who returned to his South Jersey home to celebrate one of his son's birthdays tomorrow, didn't say if the Jaguars would be that team, but Jacksonville is the only place he has visited thus far. It's also roughly 100 miles from his boyhood home in Deland, Fla.

The Eagles also announced that veteran cornerback Shawn Springs has arrived in town for a visit with the team. Springs, 33, has played the last five seasons with the Washington Redskins, but was released by the team Saturday as part of a salary-cap purge. He had 12 interceptions in his five seasons with the Redskins.

Several team sources indicated that there's a decent chance Springs leaves Philadelphia without signing a deal.

beerisgood, loyalty is something you find in a marriage. in the nfl is called money. dawkins had no loyalty toward the eagles he went for the money(good for him) these are tough times his portfolio has decreased. by the way beer is more than good.

The Phillies got their championship by staying with their core players and building around them. Te Eagles keep making big changes, letting core players go. The team will never achieve the elusive superbowl victory with the current mentality. Bringing in rookies to fill the big shoes of Dawkins, Thomas, Runyan is misguided will does nothing to address the fundamental problem of not having the offensive weapons to score. Dreadful red zone scoring last year. Additional running back to help Westbrook. Offensive line has to open better holes for him. He was getting creamed and barely getting yardage in several games. Deshawn Jackson has great talent. Kevin Curtis also is very solid. Reggie Brown ?? never materialized into the top receiver anticipated. Letting Dawkins go is a mistake. The fans will be cheering for him when he come to Philly next year with his Broncos uniform on. We should all wear our Dawkins jersey with a black arm band.

We are now seeing management showing their true colors. They'd better be careful what they ask for, they just might get it. Does 6-10 sound good? How about 5-11? 4-12? Should be fun around here next year, yep. Thanks Mr. Lurie!

who the hell have they let go so far? let's see, Dawk? declining for 3 years. Considine? Please. Lito? Um, he hardly played last year, and when he did, he was eerily reminiscent of Izell Jenkins. Tra? Runyan? Come on now, how much do you think these guys have left. If you add up all the rings these guys won in their long Eagles careers, you get the same number that I have watching them for the past 40 years. Please people, get a clue.

Runyan, Thomas, Dawkins...unfortunate way to cut ties. No Super Bowl titles, I get it, but, the "gold standard" still looks pretty cold, cheap and ungrateful. Classless bunch. When you treat people like that it generally comes back around at you. Not sure why I get emotionally wrapped up over a bunch of millionares playing a game, but I can't help it, I am a fan, just not a happy one.

Just like the line in the mafia movies: "this is business." We have gone as far as we could with Andy Reid's plan and the Eagle players. So, by all means, hand on to the past (Back to the Future!) or retool for the upcoming season. If we kept the team as it was, we still would not get past the NFC Championship game. So, you are seeing what the Eagles brain-trust is doing. Overpay only for critical positions, and restock the rest. Such is the NFL, and the Eagles record (without a Super Bowl ring) always seems to be up there in the standings in Dec.
