The Eagles will open their 2009 season Sunday Sept. 13 on the road with a 1 p.m. game against the AFC South champion Carolina Panthers, who went 12-4 during the regular season a year ago. The home opener is a week later with a 1 p.m. Sept. 20 game against the New Orleans Saints at Lincoln Financial Field.

The team is scheduled to play four games in primetime, but that could change based on flex scheduling, which begins with the Week 11 game against the Chicago Bears.

The Eagles have a brutal road schedule, going against eight opponents that were a combined 75-58 overall and 46-21 at home last season. They play three division champions – the Giants, San Diego and Carolina – on the road as well as Atlanta, which went 7-1 in the Georgia Dome.

Remove Oakland from the road equation and the Eagles’ other seven road opponents were a combined 44-15 at home in 2008.

The team’s home schedule is a lot friendlier. The Giants, Dallas and Tampa Bay are the only team coming into the Linc that had a winning record last season. The combined overall record of the Eagles’ home opponents was 63-66 and the road record of those eight teams was a combined 25-39.

Here is the entire schedule:

Sept. 13 at Carolina, 1 p.m., Fox29

Sept. 20 vs. New Orleans, 1 p.m., Fox29

Sept. 27 vs. Kansas City, 1 p.m. CBS 3

Oct. 4, Bye

Oct. 11 vs. Tampa Bay, 1 p.m. Fox29

Oct. 18 at Oakland, 4:05 p.m. Fox29

Oct. 26 at Washington,  8:30 p.m. ESPN

Nov. 1 vs. N.Y. Giants, 4:15 p.m. Fox29

Nov. 8 vs. Dallas, 8:20 p.m. NBC 10

Nov. 15 at San Diego, 4:15 p.m. Fox29

Nov. 22 at Chicago 8:20 p.m. NBC 10

Nov. 29 vs. Washington, 1 p.m. Fox29

Dec. 6 at Atlanta, 1 p.m. Fox29

Dec. 13 at N.Y. Giants, 8:20 p.m., NBC 10

Dec. 20 vs. San Francisco, 1 p.m. Fox29

Dec. 27 vs. Denver, 1 p.m. CBS 3

Jan. 3 at Dallas, 1 p.m., Fox29

You screwed up your schedule!! Nov. 8th and 15th are road games at SD and Chicago, and the Denver game is at home. Next time take a valium and if you're not the very first person on the Internet to get the schedule out, the world will still turn and no one will notice.

good to see you fixed the Bears game on the 22nd, but you're still forgetting the 15th at San Diego, and the home Denver game.

they have been playing a rotating schedule since 2002. and these home and away opponents for the most part were already determined since then.

i see 11-5 giving the eagles 1-1 against each nfc east team. i figure they lost 2 others besides splittin with nfc east. possible carolina opening day, chicago, or san diego can be losses. i dont see more than 5 or maybe 6 losses this year.

Careful what you wish for, gnomish. 2-14 if it's Kolb instead of McNabb. So long, any hope at all.

All of you who are counting the birds out before the first game please be sure to turn your tv's off and give away your tickets for game day. I would be appauled to know some fair weather fans were rooting for the best sports team in the city for the last decade!!!!! You guys are never cease to amaze me with the new lows you reach, EVERY YEAR!!!!!!! SHAME ON YOU! THE SEASON HASN'T EVEN STARTED!!!!!!

9-7...When did the Panthers move to the AFC and when did the Raiders or Chargers move to the NFC East? I don't know which is worse...the writer for getting the stuff wrong, or the reader for not understanding... oh, wait...I know which is worse...the guy getting paid for it.

What a bunch of sad sacks..."no playoffs this season"..."8 wins max".... We could be 6-10; could be 12-4. Who knows at this point. Could be 9-6-1 and one step away from the big game. Stop your whining, root for the Phils, and check back in November when the team usually gets hot...

NFC Championship game and ONE MNF game on the ROAD? Redskins get 2 MNF games, both at home, after not making the playoffs, and selling all their tickets off to Steeler fans for their Monday game last year? Really?

Gimme a break! Who can predict what kind of record we will have until the games are played? Wait until the season starts and let's see what kind of team we will have before we get into all of this nonsense.

Too bad we won't get to see Dawkins play, as im sure he will be hurt or cut by the time he returns to the Linc...

lst game in carolina will probably be a hot day(good chance of a McNabb throwup) After lst 8 games eagles will be 4-4 or 5-3 at the very best

Early games will decide if were any good. Should be at least 3-2 after the first 5 games. No worse.Should be 4-1.With our division you have to say, one team will sweep vs Eagles and we split with the rest. Last six games lucky to be 3-3. So I'm looking at 9-7 with a chance of 11-5.Those middle games are going to be tough. Try to split the schedule into 3, the 1st 5 then the next 6 and the last 5. And then try to decide what they SHOULD do and end up.Tough schedule.

Just read on ESPN.com that Clayton is reporting the Cardinals are now officially listening to offers for Boldin. Coach Ken W-whatever is quoted as saying "Since not a whole lot has changed with his contractual situation, we know that will come back. It would be foolish from out standpoint not to listen to those opportunities and see what actually exists. But I want to make the points -- our goal is to re-sign him to a long-term deal. That hasn't changed."

The 45-year-old Brookover lives in Delran with his wife Francine and roots for Notre Dame and Michigan State, the two schools attended by his children, Justine and Ryan. When Notre Dame plays Michigan State, he cheers for the school of the child he likes more at that particular moment.

Jeff McLane, right, joined the Eagles beat in April 2009 after two years of covering colleges, namely Penn State football. Before that he covered high school sports for The Inquirer. Before that he worked in the mailroom (not quite). Informed that his father is no longer covering the Lions, McLane's eldest, three-year-old son said, "You mean Simba, Scar and Mufasa, Daddy?" His two-year-old son -- excited about the move to the Eagles -- said, "Go, Deigo, Go!" or something like that. His wife of five-plus years, however, had a different take on the new job. "Another five years is in question," she said. Check out McLane on Twitter and Facebook for instant updates on the Eagles.
