Steve Vallos had only been gone for two weeks, but he was thrilled to be back. Vallos, who was released when the roster was pared to 53 on Aug. 31, spent the past two weeks in Seattle waiting for the phone to ring. He knew it wasn't going to happen the first week because his contract would need to be fully guaranteed as a vested veteran, so he waited for a call.
When Jason Kelce suffered his injury, Kelce's phone started buzzing. One person he heard from was Mike Gibson, another player with experience who was in the Eagles' training camp.
Vallos was a natural player to fill the roster spot when the Eagles opted to shelf Kelce for the season. Vallos almost made the team and he knew the roster.
"I knew I was going to be close, but you never know," Vallos said of making the team out of camp. "I knew it was between Dallas, Julian [Vandervelde] and myself, and there's always someone new coming onto a team. I'm glad I can be here in our training camp and I'm back."
